Pros

Co-workers are genuine and good people. They bond together and do a great job, Lots of expertise and ablities. The good name of Cabela's still means something.

Cons

Terrible ethical behavior by upper management. Don't believe a word they say. Pay is horrible! Work/life balance is nowhere to be seen. They pile on the workload with no extra pay. Set you up to fail. Cost of living in Sidney is ridiculous compared to working class group of employees' salaries. They talk about honoring employees but they don't. Lots and lots of good ol boy stuff. Benefits are very sub par. Regular workers can't afford to access their health care. Treatment of women in general is really bad. Co-workers struggle together with these things. Upper management is clueless.

The outfitters are a great bunch of people.

Cons

The outfitters are not as important as they were before the store went corporate.

Pros

The employees are of diverse backgrounds and in many case exceptional in ability and knowledge. Employee discounts are pretty decent. Most employees are active sportsmen and sportswomen. The most enjoyable aspect of employment is who you work with, but not necessarily who you work for.

Cons

Despite Cabela's claims to be employee-oriented, there exists a solid "good 'ol boy" network in place. If an employee is not prepared to drink the Kool-Aid, zero opportunity for advancement exists. Wages are low and the hours of duty are as impractical as can be imagined. If an employee is vocal about business practices, they are signing their own employment death certificate. The ability to convince customers to sign up for a company credit card trumps all other individual qualifications or achievements. Veteran employees understand the concept of keeping your head down and mouth shut to avoid termination.
