Culture Club

Pros

Be part of a certain culture and all is well. Opportunities and promotions will come your way. Company believes firmly in DEI as a "fundamental pillar". Merit is not a critical success factor.

Cons

Non-technical managers managing technical staff. Minimal opportunity for advancement. Roles and responsibilities vary depending on the situation. Salaries do not keep pace with CPI. Management silos alive and well. Management indifference with respect to internal policies. Lack of accountability. Subjective annual review process. High turnover in certain divisions. Obsolete or antiquated technologies. Huge salary inequity between staff and senior management for a non-profit.

Pros

Good benefits, fun work, nice location (but now remote for most), decent salary.

Cons

Chaotic leadership, toxic people and customers, old technology, lack of resources, astronomically large work load, professional development left to internal courses and LinkedIn Learning, no work-life balance at all, company culture consists of management consistently saying: "we are family" (you will begin to roll your eyes the more you hear this).

Good company

Pros

Individual contributors are great. I thoroughly enjoy my coworkers. Somewhat flexible hours with an alternative work schedule and work from home options offered to some teams. Great facility in Folsom with onsite cafe, gym, volleyball court, employee garden and nice walking path. Excellent benefit options with 401k matching.

Cons

Management puts a lot of pressure on employees to meet poor deadlines and then gets frustrated when deployments go "less-than-smooth". Decisions are often made solely on the basis of what sounds feasible, not what is actually feasible.
