Amazing people, very little direction

Pros

Truly kind, smart, and caring colleagues. Good benefits and chances to travel.

Cons

The current environment feels extremely disjointed, particularly with GTM direction changing frequently without a clear execution plan. While initiatives like "speed boat" were meant to drive agility, the lack of training and support has led to fear and a culture of blame rather than empowerment. This has been exacerbated by senior leadership openly stating Camunda needs to "get better at firing people" or stating "those seeking work-life balance and job security look elsewhere." Comments like these have significantly damaged morale and trust. The result is a workplace where innovation and collaboration are stifled, as employees are forced to focus on self preservation. Documenting every action to shield themselves from blame when issues arise (which never seems to land on leadership). It’s disheartening, especially for those who once saw Camunda as a forward thinking, innovative company. The recent layoffs (including high performers) and the growing number of colleagues actively searching for new roles only reinforce the sense of instability and internal negativity.

Want work life balance or a positive culture? Look elsewhere.

Pros

Remote work environment Good tool stack to enable remote work (slack, Google workplace, Asana)

Cons

We’ve been told that if we want work life balance we should look elsewhere. We are losing great talent, top performers being exited without explanation (and the process to communicate departures has just changed from being shared with the company (who’s leaving/left) to only need to know basis.] The strategy and priority shifting we all read about in other comments is real and expectations are increasing while teams continue to be over tasked and losing great talent.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. At Camunda, we’re in the midst of a significant transformation, shifting from a product-led company to a high-performing, AI-driven, go-to-market organization. That shift brings challenges, and we don’t shy away from acknowledging them. Our goal remains to create an environment where meaningful work and personal well-being can thrive. Flexibility is a core value, and our fully remote model is designed to support people in working when, where, and how they work best. We also appreciate the feedback on communication. Transparency and candor matter to us, and we’re continuing to evolve how we share information while respecting individual privacy. Thank you again for your feedback. It helps us reflect, grow, and stay accountable to the kind of culture we want to build.

Pros

This is a company that is set up for long term success and is striving to be a market leader. The company is on the cusp of achieving big goals.

Cons

Camunda is not a place to work if you would like to keep a work/life balance. The CEO has stated as much. Sure, there is an unlimited time off policy, but it's common to see others working during their vacations. You'll be working on your time off too. Hours are long because there is a high workload assigned to every engineer. You're expected to make meaningful progress on many things all at once with no relief on any of them if you'd like to focus on one task. There's no way anyone could accomplish it all in a normal 40 hour work week. With the amount of workload given to engineers, there is no enhanced compensation to make up for it. Salaries and the equity given are nothing special. Why should an engineer be expected to give so much to the company, when the pay and equity is not better than any other place?
