Pros
You can make 6-figures as a Director with only a GED (no kidding!). Good stepping stone for a recent graduate with the Canon brand on your resume. A haven if you are a mold designers Great Medical Benefits Two weeks paid plant shutdown
Cons
Management is in dire need of a moral compass. US employees are treated as second-class citizens. As a recent graduate you will gain very little professional experience. Interns, don’t even bother. You will gain nothing but a pay check. A haven for nepotism and cronyism. High turnover rate Not a place for a bona fide engineer Professional are treated like a line-worker CVI is a manufacturing facility with recent aspiration of becoming a “center of excellence” for Canon’s new product designs. They have one big obstacle standing before them… They are staffed with neophyte engineers whose claim to fame is mold designing. All of the real engineering takes place in Japan. Products are design in Japan and shipped to the states for manufacturing and servicing. Even the automated manufacturing lines are design in Japan and are only assembled and serviced by American engineers. Roles and responsibility are in disarray. Directors and managers pretend to be engineers. Engineers are reduces to glorified technician. Technicians are glorified assemblers. Management is very top heavy. In some cases there’s a manager with a single subordinates. The management staff has grown complacent in their roles and possess meager managerial skills. You may be unfortunate (highly likely) and have a wile of a manager/director. Be sure to document any and everything that you are tasked with in order to CYA in the event that something goes astray. You can best believe that your wiling manager/director will not hesitate to “throw you under the bus” in order to CHA. They will never achieve their aspiration with their current manufacturing mind set and treatment of American employees. As a professional you are treated as a line worker. Don’t fall for their infamous sales pitch of never having a layoff since the 80’s. This may be true. They are reluctant to lay you off. Instead they will make you work life so miserable that you will, as I did, simply leave voluntarily. I’ve since removed all Canon products from my home.
