Pros

The people you work with day to day are great! Always having fun and making the most out of a situation. Decent vacation time. Plus floating holidays and wellness days.

Cons

Don’t get me wrong, canvas is a good employer. However, they expect too much from their staff, or ‘CanFam’. The hours are long even if there was a change, it would only be beneficial if ALL branches close at 5. They don’t understand work life balance and don’t understand that we actually have family we want to spend time with, or even just time to ourselves. Most of the branch staff are burnt out. Home office positions offer hybrid and work till 5. In a consultant role, you also don’t get paid enough. You have the potential to get 2 raises a year, but they are a few cents and most of the time you only get 1 raise at the end of the year. At the pay, you can’t even afford to have a small apartment by yourself in a bad neighborhood. It’s not a livable wage and most barely get by living pay check to pay check. They make it hard to work your way up and spend money on areas that aren’t important instead of paying their staff more.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughtful feedback with us. We genuinely appreciate hearing about both the positive aspects and areas where we can improve. Our commitment to our people is essential, and we’re delighted that your experience working with our teams has been positive. Regarding your concerns about pay and vacation time, please know that we continuously strive to be a market leader in compensation and benefits. We regularly evaluate and adjust our offerings to ensure they align with industry standards and meet our employees’ needs. Paid Time Off was originally designed to be an all-in-one bucket, and included time for sickness, personal reasons, or vacation. With the onset of the health benefit changes from the state of Colorado, Canvas decided to transition to separate buckets for time off to comply with the new regulation. Now that vacation is separate from sick time, it does look like less accrued time; however, accrual figures are annualized, and accrued time off may be realized sooner than modeled. Across all hours, accrued and awarded, Canvas’ paid time off is generous. Canvas also provides dedicated paid time off for wellness and volunteer time, as well as observance of federal holidays. Additionally, we would like to highlight the training and development opportunities available to support employees’ growth such as Empower Hours, uCan courses, and MyPlan discussions. These are valuable resources that can help open doors for professional development. We encourage all employees to take initiative and explore utilizing these resources. Once again, thank you for your valuable contributions to serving our members, Canvas Family, and communities. Your service is appreciated!

Pros

Going to work each day felt like going to see extended family members that you really like and care about. Yes there were days that felt overwhelming but most of the time it was pretty chill. Most everyone on my team was great to work with. Most of leadership really cared about the teams they ran and tried to push for positive attitudes each and everyday. Catered lunches happened here and there as rewards and for things that required all hands on deck, it was a nice perk. Having the opportunity to sit with the CEO and chat with a small group of my peers about the future of the CU was pretty cool. Every year the CU put on a conference "AFG" with guest speakers and to give insight of the direction of the CU for the next year. My direct leadership was pretty awesome. Overall It was a great place to work, but it just wasn't the right place for me.

Cons

Hourly pay could have been better, but the incentive pay help supplement what was missing. Dealing with members when interest rates sky rocket can be hard too. Having to explain to members that the auto dealer do not work for the CU and that the CU have guidelines to lending on vehicles can be a challenge when a person is wanting to lower their monthly payment or APR. waking up early for meetings when they could have happened at the end of the day.
