Worst Job I’ve Ever Had

Pros

You can coast by being terrible at literally everything. If you just stay around long enough you’ll eventually get promoted (in title only, not salary) without actually doing anything else. Oh and you can expense just about anything.

Cons

They’ll sell you on only doing project based work, but that’s a lie. No one knows this company outside of Richmond, so they struggle to get work. The executives can’t past their egos enough to realize this, so they only go after the big name companies who, if they even give them the time of day, only give them staff augmentation projects (aka just put bodies in chairs and do what we tell you). Getting involved in sales is the only way you’ll get past a certain point. The great thing about this is that you can lie and perform whatever unethical tasks it takes to lock down a contract. And once a project starts, the account managers have to continue the lies. Project falling apart? No it isn’t! Things are great and we’re lying to get the next project lined up! And finally, if they mention anything around diversity, it’s the biggest crock of garbage you’ll ever hear. Anyone that’s actually tried to make a difference here has been ignored or fired. There’s a reason you pretty much only see white men everywhere in the company. There’s a reason you rarely see women in any leadership positions that don’t involve HR, and even then it’s almost entirely white women. They’ve tried to rebrand themselves around this recently, but don’t be fooled. Nothing has changed. They can’t even make charitable donations or do community service projects without the end goal being securing another project with a big company that continues to ignore them. This place is awful. The leadership that’s paid to post positive reviews here to counteract the negative reviews is awful. The work is awful. Time spent here is a complete waste and will hinder your career growth.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. It is clear, and saddens me, that your time with us ended in a very negative place for you. You’ve made a lot of sweeping statements that I would like the opportunity to better understand. Please feel free to reach out to me personally at kapostolides@captechconsulting.com. I am hopeful that the CapTech experiences and growth that kept you here for your 5+ years will continue to thrive and have a positive impact in the next chapter of your career journey. – Katy Apostolides, HR Director

Pros

- The work is super easy - as a 10 year consultant I was doing excel and tableau - Nice marketing and beautiful "packaging" to reflect a professional, project based consulting firm - it is not

Cons

- Filter Glassdoor reviews to show the lowest ratings - the themes are all common, have been for years, and don't change - toxic, sexist, unsafe, etc. - Themes that are never addressed because leadership just doesn't care. If they did, the negative themes wouldn't be so consistent for so long. - Glassdoor responses, sadly written by HR, never leaders, promise that a solution is in process, just a few months away, or your review doesn't reflect the CapTech we aspire to be, etc. - Until major shifts in leadership occur, CapTech will continue it's downward spiral

Pros

Lots of smart people that you get to work with. There are some cool client projects, but most are fairly mundane. Benefits are good. The intern and new college hire programs appear to be very organized and well run...it's probably a decent place to start a career, I just can't recommend it to experienced professionals.

Cons

Recruiters will absolutely lie to you during the hiring process. If you want to be promoted, you must do extra internal work on top of your 40 billable hours, despite their insistence that this is't the case. You have absolutely no control over which client/project you're assigned to unless you intention hide skills from your internal resume (which seemed to be common practice). The internal structure of the company is abysmal - they've outgrown their systems but refuse to address it. It's an HR lawsuit waiting to happen. The company outwardly projects a fun culture, but I found it to be a fairly strict and oppressive workplace.
