Pros

I made some friends. Who actually all agree with my headline.

Cons

CapTech was one of the most toxic work environments I have ever worked in. It was not only a boys club but it is not diverse at all, there is a lot of smoke and mirrors around diversity and inclusion. You are also either in the "IN" club or you're not, and if you're not and you upset someone you can most certainly count on getting a call from HR. HR or henchmen. The HR team is manipulative and works to create a "case" even if there is nothing to create a case around. I had several colleagues get "let go" that started off with an initial conversation from HR like "You aren't online enough", which somehow escalated in the following weeks to being fired with no real proof or justification. Management themselves have their own club, they are unprofessional, and talk about employees, have their favorites, and are not at all up front about it, but instead resort to being "fake nice" and again manipulative. The promotion process has no clarity or real standards, they will not promote you and never give any real feedback or they may promote you if you know the right people. CapTech also encourages their employee's to leave good reviews to try and drown out the truth of the bad reviews. They have gone through great lengths to get rid of or hide bad reviews on this site.

These are very tough words to read; however, if this was your experience at our company, that is even tougher to accept. We never want our culture to feel toxic, in fact we pride ourselves on the exact opposite, but for you to have felt such negativity, we are shocked and would truly welcome the opportunity to understand more about your time at CapTech. Our Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Council, along with our four Employee Resource Groups (BlackTech, Women@CapTech, PrideTech, and CapTech Asians Keeping Eating) put tremendous thought and care into our diversity roadmap, and we have long been a company where individuals can bring their whole selves to work. Promotions and growth are very much part of an employee’s career ownership alongside CapTech as it fosters learning and development. We want everyone to have a long and rewarding career with us, and we work to make their journey successful. Please feel free to reach out to me directly (kapostolides@captechconsulting.com) so we can talk through your experience together. We welcome all feedback, even the tough words, if it makes us stronger and a better place for our people. -Katy Apostolides, Managing Director, HR

Pros

Very talented employees, and nice offices.

Cons

1. Diversity: If the goal is to work for a company that has little diversity, parades D&I around for show, and does not actually take action but instead has meeting after meeting discussing what “can” be done. This is the place for you. This is the topic that is the pinnacle of their gaslighting. They continuously act as if they are making strides with diversity but in reality they take unbiased training over and over and are convinced that it will resolve their issues. In reality CapTech does not want to be held accountable for their lack of diversity, and does not take action unless it is financially beneficial for them. All you see and hear at CapTech are the micro-aggressions, which make it a defeating place to work for as an employee and with as a client. 2. Bullying: When you speak truth to power there are consequences. You may not see it coming, but it almost always comes in a form of abuse. CapTech protects the people they want to. When there is someone in question that upper management likes they are given excuses for their bad behavior: “maybe he is going through something”. If upper management is not on your side you are surely going to feel isolated. They throw mental health around like it’s a toy: “I don’t know what’s going on at home but….” 3. Boys Club: Men are consistently promoted over women and PAID MORE. They hold higher positions of power. There is a STRONG white male culture, and the only way to get promoted is to play alongside one of these men in power. 4. Sexual Harassment: Many female employees have reported sexual harassment. Pre-COVID it was rampant at almost all CapTech events. HR supposedly addresses these issues but action is rarely taken, and HR is usually friends with the accused.

It's a Job, Not a Career

Pros

- Decent benefits - Decent pay - Charlotte office is nice

Cons

- The office environment is nice but you will sit in a cramped picnic table environment where you have no personal space. The offices are reserved for the popular crowd (aka "leaders" @ CapTech) - Marketing hype and external brand portrayals of the company have no reflection on the reality inside - Client work is not valued, internal "relationship building" is. You can be exceptional consulting for your client, and even lauded by them. Yet you will not go far at CapTech unless you are connected to the right leader and focus on that relationship. Client reviews are never conducted, as an example of the fact that there is no value held on their perspective of your performance. - Promotions are subjective, popularity based, and political. The reason these keep coming up in Glassdoor reviews is because it is so rampant and frustrating. The Charlotte office is one of the largest and has a very low promotion rate. Of those that are promoted it's typical a "popular buddy" of a "leader" who is on their third promotion in two years. Meanwhile employees with 3+ years of tenure that deliver excellent work for their client sit in limbo trying to navigate an ever moving target of criteria to move to the next level. - Anyone of the leaders in the Charlotte office would not make it past the interview process of any of the Big 4. If you work with one of them you will quickly notice novice mistakes that you would never see even at the Manager level of the Big 4, yet at CapTech they are Directors and above running projects. - As others have mentioned, it's like a Frat House or High School. Popular cliques are in charge and make all of the key decisions affecting lives and careers around them. This equates to talented people being underutilized and eventually leaving as they have consistently been passed over for opportunities, promotions, or are just tired of the environment. - HR is laughable in that complaints and concerns raised to them go absolutely nowhere.
