IT is NOT what it used to be.

Pros

The pay and benefits are extremely competitive. With the exception of literally two people, I had worked with many, many associates and contractors who are TOP NOTCH, both skill-wise and in personality.

Cons

The culture in IT has gotten away from developing satisfied, long-term. dedicated employees. It has become a "do more with less" culture, forcing associates to burn the midnight oil, and often. IT executive leadership had always preached "if the business is doing well, we in IT will do well." This is no longer the case, which creates unpredictability, resulting in disengagement and apathy. For example, 2017 was a record year for the business and leadership still laid off lots of people in IT without a good explanation. Good people, who would have otherwise been lifers, have left CG despite the good pay. What does that tell you? It's almost hard to believe that only 10 years ago, Capital Group was voted one of ComputerWorld's 100 best places to work in Orange County, CA. Much has changed within the companies since then, and not for the better, at least from an IT perspective.

Pros

Easiest job for the pay I have ever had. If that is your thing you will love it. If you like change and challenge you'll hate it.

Cons

There's a high tolerance for low-performers which brings down morale and output from associates. There are no go-getters here. Everyone is happy being where they are at. Great if you want to just do the same thing over and over, and do mindless work but if you are like me and love a challenge and love to encounter different things it is hell. You won't be pushed to be your best here. If your Team Manager likes you, you are golden. If they don't like you, you are screwed.

It's a Living Hell

Pros

Good benefits Telecommuting options Nice cafeteria Agile Methodology adoption

Cons

Very slow to no upward mobility. Very few technologists in mid and upper management. The HR Department is the worst HR. One HR lady helping NAD associates talks so much that you will get fed up and rather not seek her out. HR seems to try always play safe and issues bought up with HR are NOT kept confidential. The Management Team is in useless meetings most of the day with no productive outcomes. Associates are swamped with too many meetings and conflicting priorities. Managers are unable to help team members to prioritize their work as they themselves are under immense pressure from Sr Management to do "more with less". Some team managers work very long hours 13+ hours putting pressure on their teams. The NAD IT teams are so lean that most people including managers seem burnt out. In the NAD IT department the degree and expectation to multitask has reached unacceptable proportions but the NAD Sr Management is unrelenting in overloading the associates. When new Projects come up NAD Sr Management instead of properly planning resources will move resources without any thought and without looking into impacts to other projects. Team managers are forced to give up their resources for "strategic projects" and other associates are then overloaded. Incompetent people get ahead by "being friends" with the right people in management. Most associates seem depressed and find it hard to come in to work but we keep coming back for another day in hell to collect our bonus. If there is a living hell you can find it here at CG IT. Can't wait to get out of this hell.
