Pros

The people and management at Cartera are fantastic. Yes, as in any group, there will be some fraction of the people that have no business doing any job other than head fry guy, but that happens EVERYWHERE. Overall Cartera employs talented professionals that are actually capable. During my time at Cartera I have flexed my time on my both ends, both coming in early/leaving early, and coming in late/leaving late and it has never been a problem. Management has been supportive and is less concerned about "regular hours" and much more concerned with "getting the job done." Does Cartera have a technical debt? Like most companies, yes they do. And I am SO happy about it. As a developer it gives me a job, so "Yay for people rushing tech in startups so that I can clean it up and help them succeed." At Cartera developers are not drones that sit in a corner and write code to fit into some dorks idea of nirvana. We are creative professionals that take pride in our work and enjoy problem solving and making the product better. Don't get me wrong, we have a couple drones, but some people LIKE being drones. Every year Cartera has a holiday party, a summer outing, several family events around the holiday season, and a "day of service" where the company does community volunteer work. Looking at my calendar I see an upcoming blood drive, a restaurant week lunch (company paid), and the discussion of Halloween costumes is already starting to heat up in email. Oh, an excellent post on the company internal site about the cancer research fund raising results of an employee and consequence of hitting the goal. Hilarious, trust me. If you are lucky/good enough to get a job offer at Cartera, take it.

Cons

I have worked at Cartera for several years and I must say that I have no major complaint, in fact, I'm finding it difficult to find a minor complaint. Cartera is like many companies, there are some things that are annoying, but that's a universal constant. I don't like meetings that occasionally run long, but it happens sometimes. I don't like getting to the end of a project only to have the project manager inform me that I need to add a new feature, but we are beholden to the customer, so sometimes this happens. I HATE laptops in meetings! I called a meeting to discuss something, you want to read email? Do it on your own time. We need more QA engineers.

Pros

Compensation is good and benefits are decent for a tech company. People were mostly nice I didn't have any conflicts with anyone (guess I'm lucky). Booze party every weekly if you like that kind of pastime.

Cons

The company is always losing money (something they don't tell you during the interview process). Any "solutions" only make things worse and lead to more layoffs. Even though it didn't happen to me, but I heard a few ugly stories of internal fighting. Coupled with the layoffs, that's not good for the company morale. Also during the interview, I was led to believe I'd be able to use cutting edge tools and technology in my field - never happened. Every little thing had to be discussed ad nauseam. I had to catch up with my skills in my own free time (not that I mind it, but you'd expect your job to at least a little facilitate your professional growth).

Miserable.

Pros

Coffee maker. Holiday Parties. Left over scraps in the kitchen from upper management meetings.

Cons

Meetings are plentiful and meaningless. No self identity. Superiors keep you close with no room to breathe. Advancement? Forget about it. People rot at Cartera.
