Pros

Working with the team at Chamberlain was a great experience. Everyone at *that* level respects and understands each other’s role and works towards the common goal. The base income and incentive structure was at the high end of all comparable roles for which I received offers. Fully remote work with no in-office expectations.

Cons

The executive leadership team is too indecisive, constantly second guessing their own decisions and having everyone scramble to justify moving forward in one way or another. They are highly opinion driven (a HIPPO culture), ignoring or dismissing most real data presented to them, and forcing teams to work backwards in order to use whatever data they can to justify leadership’s opinion (which changes week to week). Because of their indecision, they also micro manage product development to death (i.e., death by a thousand paper cuts) with dozens of meetings required to make simple product decisions. The ELT is so afraid to fail, the fear permeates through the entire organization with VP-level people afraid to make decisions without the blessing of the CEO. This environment ultimately leads to all decisions taking months, all work slowing down to a snails pace, and teams struggling to balance moving product development forward while bracing against the constant indecision/pivots from above.

Pros

Good experience for building resume but that’s it. Even then, is it worth it? You be the judge.

Cons

Chaotic. The style of management is more of micro managing than letting their employees operate independently (which they will tell you they do). If you are a minute late logging on or returning from lunch than you can bet you’ll hear about it, and it won’t be kind. The manager will be-little you and make you feel small, this goes for pretty much anything. The flexibility was pretty horrendous as well, they allow one person off per day, and if you don’t submit your off days on January 1st then your year is done as far as PTO goes. So if you don’t have your entire year planned by the 1st, then you are SOL. This company is also notorious for setting unrealistic goals, so it’s just another reason to have somebody jump in your inbox and tell you you aren’t doing good enough. The work load is also too much. You’ll start out doing what the position was described as, but after some time you will be dumped into other areas with minimal training. The customers you speak to are rude, and the nice ones are few and far between. This job is not for you if you can’t handle getting yelled at by an angry redneck at-least 4 times a day. I have plenty else to say, but I will leave it at this.

Pros

Good salary and benefits. Good co-workers throughout the organization's facilities. State of the art corporate headquarters with wooded walking path and cafeteria. Inclusive and diverse.

Cons

Current COO is the real power in the organization and has drastically undermined CEO's drive to create a collaborative, OneTeam culture. Numerous resignations and layoffs over the past 18 months. Attempt to become a software-based, solutions driven organization hobbled by the fact that Chamberlain is a hardware-based organization whose customers (distributors, dealers, and ultimately installers) have little interest in IoT products such as cameras and locks. Myopic global vision with little to no strategic planning. Niche market projects like PetPortal allowed to go into development solely to appease COO's ego. New breed of managers with questionable ethics willing to do whatever it takes to rise in the organization. OneTeam spirit is gone.

Thank you for the candid review. We continue to transform from a company that solely manufactures industry leading door openers to one that creates smart, seamless access journeys for our customers. As a company, we are going through growing pains, and the future is looking positive for the company.
