Return-to-office is a farce

Pros

Most people working at Schwab are genuinely very nice

Cons

The return-to-office initiative is a farce for most non client-facing employees (those in marketing, technology etc). I used to love coming in to the office... when there was a point to it. Now we're forced to spend money & time in traffic to come in, sit in front of our computers, and have most of our meetings on communication apps anyway, since many of our team members are still remote. As ludicrous as it sounds, we're basically coming in to the office to work remotely (and having to put up with the noise of other people around us shouting into their mics for their remote meetings) To add insult to injury, colleagues who were lucky enough to have moved away during Covid or who are on the "Green side" (and don't live near an office) have the privilege of being able to work from the comfort of their home. It's inequity and favoritism.

Pros

It’s a job if you need one

Cons

We just laid off a ton of people and likely won’t get our full bonus because of poor decisions by the EC, but sure let’s highlight how we throw money into a PGA sponsorship on the internal home page. That’ll really build culture. The EC and upper leadership is so, SO out of touch with the lives and financial well-being of the people that do the actual work every single day. We’re not going to get a full bonus payout because of the mismanagement of this firm, money that we NEED in order to exist because we don’t make millions of dollars a year. We have some amazing resources available through the employee branch, but who has extra money to actually invest? No one that is not in upper leadership makes a living wage any longer, but sure let’s highlight the sponsorship of an elite sports event paid for with money that could have gone into the pockets of the people that make your business actually run, and who no longer make a living wage.

Pros

There is great leadership at Schwab. They care about your career and if you want to go somewhere, they will help you get there if you put in the effort and show dedication. They are really good at hiring as there's a lot of strong talent.

Cons

Not many downsides... It's very busy on the phones. They may be understaffed. If you like competition this is the place to be. There is a lot of strong talent.
