Pros

20% discount on pet food

Cons

Everything. Culture, leadership, WLB, and worse of all, the tech stack. FYI the cto is SO clueless. He is a DBA from staples. As you can see, nepotism is an operating principle.

Pros

- Very relaxed dress code (shorts, t-shirts, flip flops). - Chewy has a bunch of FANTASTIC engineers at the ground level, struggling technical debt and poor decisions. These guys are the heart and soul of what is left of the old Chewy operating principles. - If you're looking for a huge mess to cleanup from the legacy days, this is the place for you (if you're into that kind of stuff). - There is a huge migration to public cloud that should alleviate "on-prem" excuses that development teams crutch on. Migrating to public cloud has already exposed the lack of ownership and willingness to learn/adapt on a majority of application teams. - Modern development languages are used (Kotlin, Scala etc). The mobile, pricing and marketing teams are doing really awesome things.

Cons

- Production outages are treated as blame games rather than constructive post postmortems. Finger-pointing happens at the very top of our leadership structure. This must change. - There is no trust between leadership and engineers. Leadership will often make false claims based off phony data, then back down when engineering brings real data into the mix. - There is a severe lack of collaboration between teams. Many teams impose limitations on others due to status quo. Innovation is not something that is promoted here, it's actually punished. - Severe lack of planning, everything is priority number one all the time. There are countless requests that get thrown at multiple teams 4:59PM Friday with a due date of 5:00PM. This behavior is common and encouraged from leadership to "get things done". - Unwilling to tackle technical debt (/etc/hosts lol). This is a pretty common thing at companies, but my personal worse encounter yet. Things are in a terrifying state with lots of ignorance and doubt around the cold hard facts about the infrastructure. It's truly astonishing that anything actually functions.

Pros

Fantastic pay and incredibly friendly atmosphere. One of the best corporate atmospheres ever experienced while working in the same space as the CEO's.

Cons

Serious favoritism and absolutely horrible management. You're expected to be extremely positive around Chewy.com, however some of the leads that are responsible for your academic prowess within the company make it a known that they don't have to abide by the positive rule. I've also had a manager make a critical error, and never owned up to it allowing the idea of it being my fault to make it to other leads. This company has entirely too many microgovernments and wanna-be Alans in Chewy.com. And on the note of favoritism, your chances and opportunities of excelling are often given to those who don't have to have the skills to perform tasks, but have been known longer among the company. I've watched people get fired for having their cell out, yet not for all people (favorites and pals). I've also watched someone get demoted by a lead within a week or two for disobeying the positive rule, only to watch that very lead get demoted for the very same thing. So if you apply, smile until it hurts, for it will be your status there that hurts if anything.
