Pros

Turnover is so high it won't look bad on your resume if you leave in a year

Cons

Serious sweatshop . Lack of vision from leadership, who try to adopt/steal ideas from Amazon, except their knowledge is skin deep so they fail at being a knockoff of Amazon anyway. Unqualified and incompetent micromanagers who are all from the same part of the world. There's no point working hard here because you won't be rewarded due to that obvious preference for people of a certain race and gender. Definitely a clubby, toxic, backstabbing culture where burnout and abuse is the norm. HR and leaders know that's the culture (including the rampant racism/sexism) and actively cultivate it.

Pros

Some of the people can be fun and down to earth. Sometimes dogs in the office but most of the owners are irresponsible (accidents, barking, no leashes, etc). There is a chance to gain some business experience but it’s not worth it for everything you have to go through.

Cons

My god. Where do I start? I don’t think I’ve ever worked with leadership and sr leadership that was so cocky and full of themselves yet delivered incredibly poor work. The environment is one where higher ups (mostly white or Indian men) like to beat their chests and be on top. I've witnessed many interactions where these men would argue like babies simply to be right, even if their idea was proven to be detrimental to the business or employees. Ideas that serve the customer are always prioritized which is understandable to an extent. But there is no effort to balance projects that serve both the customer and employees. HR loves to stick their nose up and say they’re collecting reviews through surveys or other means in order to make changes to improve the employee experience but they haven’t done much. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard members of HR and senior management making fun of CS reps like they didn’t just spend 8 hours on the phone getting ripped apart by entitled customers. The worst part is the typical reaction to reps who seek guidance on abusive calls is “you chose the job” or “they must be exaggerating they do this every day.” It’s borderline abusive and incredibly unhealthy. And the reason management acts this way is because their higher ups do the same to them. It’s a never ending cycle of down talking and assuming the worst in people. It’s also an environment where they’re slow to properly pay employees for their work. They’re quick to load more onto your plate and expect you to be available 24/7 but will avoid you when you ask for a pay increase because of how much time you’re giving to the company. I’ve even seen some managers/directors become downright upset when the topic of pay comes up. I remember telling my leader that I had a lot happening at once and I was having to regularly work well past an 8 hour shift to get work done. Their response was “You must not be utilizing your time wisely.” Pure assumption and zero attempt to understand what my days were looking like. Mind you it turned out not to be a misuse of time but an overload of work (and unfair pay.) That's a common theme you'll see across these reviews. Chewy cares more about getting more work done that it does your health. The worst thing I’ve witnessed was the slow reaction to COVID concerns. Everyone received a typical “it’s business as usual, we will keep you updated” response from HR and senior management. They wouldn’t even tell people what they were planning to do to keep employees safe. Just general emails of “We are wiping doorknobs and desks. Stay safe.” If someone was concerned and didn’t have a doctors approval to go on LOA the HR department basically said good luck. This was all while no social distancing was happening across the call centers and meeting/training rooms were packed. While they were slowly but finally able to get people to work from home, it sucks for those that left out of fear and were never told that they would have a safe option to work. I even heard one of the sr management members say “If they can go grocery shopping or get gas they can come to work. I don’t understand what the big deal is.” Absolutely no concern for the employees. All in all, it’s a huge mess. It’s very easy to look at a company with bright colors and pictures of people holding a dog and think “Wow! This looks great.” But when you step into the company and have to deal with people who are all concerned with a meaningless rat race it all goes down the drain.

Pros

Great place to be a white man. It's like the 1950's here.

Cons

Extremely toxic company. Bad behavior toward women from other engineers and upper management is tolerated. Prices at Chewy are higher than at competitors. In an effort to lower shipping costs, they package things together that shouldn't be packaged together resulting in frequent damaged items.
