Pros

You will be given the opportunity to demonstrate your talent if you have it. This can allow you to be tracked for prominent positions throughout your career if you have attained the proper educational credentials.

Cons

However the politics might not allow you to be rewarded for your your talents when displayed. Despite demonstrating success in some areas, you can be overlooked for positions with more responsibility out of fear that you will outshine your superiors and make their roles seem obsolete.
