Pros

The opportunity to help and support the education of children in the Chicago Public Schools. The net working and meeting great people who care about education. The self satisfaction that you were able to help the administration at the school.

Cons

Individuals with no educational credentials appointed politically to run departments at the Central Office level that dictate to school educators on how to run schools. As a result of these individuals running these departments they bring in their own incompetent people who know less than they do to fill the educational support role. They do not have the educational theory background (classes, and or even a college degree, etc.) and are not helpful in most cases. The importance and concentration these individuals put into creating departments to justify a job and employment with staff's that have little to no impact on the quality of education.
