Pros

Some project managers and project teams are fun to work with, but that’s about it.

Cons

If you are a young person looking for a career, this is not the place to be. This is just a job that will teach you unusable skills and is a company that will not add much weight to your resume. Low pay with low benefits. (low 401K, 10 days total vacation that builds up over time, minimal sick time off) No life-work balance. Colleagues and management want to be able to contact you at all times. Recruiters and Glassdoor reviews will convince you it’s a great place to work until you’re trying to leave and the same recruiters will tell you that everyone they’ve placed there has been unhappy and having difficulty transitioning to another job. Well isn’t that just dandy!

Pros

Upper management has open door policy. Engineers and PM were great to work with.

Cons

Job itself was not close to how it was described and present. Most companies have an orientation and have you train under several people so you can get the job right. However this company didn’t have any booklets or professional training in place. First week I was sat down to learn about software and it made absolutely no sense (used construction vocab I had no knowledge of). Staff should’ve taken the time to teach what each component meant. Like what a change order is rather than just saying “when you get this doc “Y it out”. What does that even mean?? Trainer and some BM’s were not friendly or approachable. Pay is ok. But this is a dead end job (just a position) with no future. I would strongly encourage applicants to look elsewhere. Only 10 days vacation per year (discouraged to use). Be ready to get contacted during off-hours. Required to come in at 8am daily. Expect some physical work. Not easygoing about hours, work can be done but they still expect you to sit there til the clock hits 8 hours. Don’t use your phone. Strong feeling that everyone is out to get you. Company is very traditional and since employees have been in the company for 20+ years, they are not entirely open to change.

Pros

-Dynamic environment and tasks -- every day will be different from the previous -Opportunity to engage with many different personalities and parties, including your project team, subcontractors, the Owner/Developer, and Architect -Given many responsibilities that directly impact the job, in a position to make significant contributions to the project -Lots of experience gained in a short period of time working with various management essentials: RFIs, Submittals, Change Orders, Contracts, Subcontractor management, Jobsite Financials, etc. -Management skills are developed that can be applied to many other industries -Will do their best to accommodate your preferences if you ask management about new opportunities/locations

Cons

-Early days & late nights. Minimum 10 hours is typical, usually on site by 7AM. Can exceed this when project is particularly busy. Working a Saturday every 2-3 months is not uncommon. -Your project team can make or break your experience. If you have a poor manager or teammate, it can really slow down the progress of the job and suck the enjoyment out of your work -Often an overwhelming amount of work is placed on you. It can be difficult to balance all of your responsibilities and you must learn to prioritize very quickly-- you will always be behind on work
