Pros

The environment at CoStar was very amicable. A majority of the employees were recent grads of college. Couple that with the location in downtown Bethesda and you have countless people to meet and greet with after hours. It is during the hours or work that are another matter. The money is good for an entry level position.

Cons

The senior management as well as the owner have no real set goal. It seems as if the owner will wake up one day with an idea in his head and wish to have it implemented within the week.

Pros

The best reason for working at the CoStar Group was the great group of people that I met during my tenure. Everyone was more than happy to help is a question had to be answered. They were great people because they were in the same boat as many others... (Read: not sure of where they wanted to go in life.) There was limited feedback and recognition especially if you were to work on a "project." Besides the people, much of the time was used for working. Many times employees would email each other back and forth if there were rumblings in the office.

Cons

During my entire time there, there were always politics within the office. I was a member of the "employee satisfaction task force." Nothing was ever acted upon if there were suggestions to "improve" life at CoStar. There was a time when we had a meeting in San Diego with Mr. Florence. During the 4-HOUR meeting, someone asked the question about dissatisfaction and all that he could say was, "I know that you are unhappy. I'm sorry." For a company of 15,000+ employees throughout the country, and that is all that the CEO has to say. You have to be kidding me.

Pros

The best reason I can think of to work for the CoStar Group is to get sound training in commercial real estate prior to joining a commercial real estate firm. CoStar Group has established an excellent training program due to the high turnover rate. They basically train for 3-5 weeks, then phase you onto the floor via a transition period. Here, you learn not only the detailed types of commercial real estste working with property records, you speak with brokers, owners, etc. Work there for one solid year and you will learn a tremendous amount about commercial real estate and earn a decent salary.

Cons

Andy and his band of Merry Men (& Women) are clueless when it comes to managing/ leading a company this size.
