Pros

Nodearth of resources at ones disposal, highly collaborative environment, independence in following ones own research direction, frequent mulit-discliplinary meetings providing many networking and collaboration oppurtunities, frequent wine and cheeses and fun lab events.

Cons

Too much independence-lack of guidance from mentors, very long graduation times for students, very high publication pressure.

Pros

Knowing that your entire company is working in cutting-edge science trying to cure all types of diseases and advancing education is a great motivator to come to work everyday (even if you're not a scientist)! The relaxed environment with an on-campus bar isn't bad either.

Cons

Although the scientists working here are the best in their fields, they can sometimes interfere with how the actual business is run. Trust more in your support staff like IT, finance, HR, etc to do their jobs as they are the pros in their respective fields.

Pros

Beautiful campus, a ton of interesting research projects, frequent (free!) opportunities to sit in on valuable, informative seminars conducted by reputable guest speakers, great benefits/vacation/holiday/401K package, casual dress/work environment acceptable.

Cons

Not much room for growth as a lab tech, and the base salary of $34,000/year is almost impossible to survive on, let alone when you have a considerable student loan debt to pay off. It's quickly realized here that in academia, the only way to advance your career is to get a higher degree, which translates into even more debt. It's also virtually impossible to get fired from this place, even when you don't show up or only stay for 3-4 hours when you actually do, so that creates more dead weight than should ever be allowed in a professional environment. Ambitious, motivated employees suffer here, while the lazy ones thrive. You think at such a reputable laboratory you'd be surrounded by intelligent, mature professionals, but my experience proved to be the exact opposite. This place is ideal for someone who is complacent with putting in minimal time/effort into their career, and has a trust fund or wealthy spouse that can supplement the insultingly low salary...or for someone is also going to school part time or taking a break between grad school (flexible hours, some opportunity to be co-authors on research papers).
