Pros

Good product for marketing , nothing much that i can think off

Cons

Would categorize as , technical , Operational , HR , Sales , support , Engineering Technical (Product related) : -Single platform : sorry cannot be true always . Its like too many cooks spoil the broth , so many features clubbed into 1 platform !!nice for sales but not so nice for engineering/support - Sorry but the Commserve cannot be installed on non-windows OS - Easy to tweak the SQL DB and modify the tables/values on CS . Security compromised to the core !! -- You need to disable AV !! Why in the world should i disable Anti-virus on my servers , other vendors do not have any issues with the co-existence of AV AND BACKUP APPLICATION , in most cases engineering says data is corrupt because there is AV installed . Will be surprised to know how the product will work in a host running real-time AV scans !! - The list goes on and on. HR : - HR in India office is dummy , its just a medium to relay information to the employee while firing !! . HR works from direct orders by the VP /director of engineering/support . HR is not an independent function here . Not sure about HR in US - strategies designed overnight OPERATIONAL : - Lot of favourism . - Work culture is very informal which could be an advantage and a disadvantage - Senior management team works on direct orders by US senior management - Manager in India does not have the same powers as that of their US counterparts SALES : - Life is miserable for contractors and to some extent sales rep . - cost of PS is way too high !! ENGINEERING : - Technical interviewers are useless when conducting interview for new employees - Working in commvault you will just get a good commvault product exposure but no additional skill sets - No budget is spent on non-product related trainings - only the VP/director dictates terms , opinion of other's are considered useless - RSU's given only to higher management , profit is not shared with employees - Movement to other department is very much internal and is not open , favourism again !! - Hire and fire rule applies here !!

Pros

Commvault has grown solidly over the past decade. They have a very good product and in general, will go out of their way to make sure that their customers have a good experience with their solutions. They have a good (not great) eco-system of partners, which depending on the area of country are helpful to the overall sales process. Financially, Commvault has very strong balance sheet for company of their size, but they are fiscally very conservative. This has bode them well in the current economic climate and will continue to do so in the near term.

Cons

Commvault's boarders on the fringe of being brutal. They have had HIGH turnover in the sales ranks for the last 4 years. "High" is defined by greater than 30%. Moreover, they have turnover more than 50% of their first line managers in the last 6 quarters. They recently split the sales force into 2 functional groups: "Enterprise and Core". While it a good strategy overall (for companies that have critical mass), this has been somewhat disruptive for the sales organization as they enter FY'11. The managers at Commvault beat up their sales people with process and documenting the sales cycle, to the point where it is almost punitive. A great deal of recruiters have stopped working Commvault because of their recruiting process, which further lends to the perception of the culture. Sales people can make money there, but be advised that is all about the territory that you take over. Commvault's market share is less than 10% of the data management space, so the competition is formable and Commvault is clearly out-manned in the Fortune 500 by larger competitors Symantec and EMC, although they have been steadily chipping away at Symantec's market share for some time now.
