Pros

- You will have solid, smart co-workers that are, for the most part, down-to-earth and approachable - There are accessible opportunities to be responsible for large projects owning full software life cycle - There is a genuine collaborative environment between Product + Engineering + Design - Compass will likely be a very successful business

Cons

- The Company mission feels superficial; if you're coming for the mission i.e. to "Help Everyone Find Their Place in the World", you might not get that impression in your day to day. Despite the nice sentiment, the reality of the situation is that you very much feel like you're building tools for real estate agents because... that is what you're doing. Even if there is truth in the mission statement, the feeling does not emanate from your work; it's hard to feel like the work you do is really benefitting the world when the company only operates in luxury or high-end real estate markets across the country. Consider even, that the tools that are being made for real estate agents, who despite their notorious reputation, are just normal people. But even then, the sense of importance of technology (your work) is limited by this audience's lack of familiarity, lack of appreciation and resignation in using the provided tooling. If you're looking for something that makes you feel morally satisfied, then I'd recommend looking elsewhere. If you're hoping you can make some tools that change an industry that doesn't really want to be changed without being given any real feeling of appreciation, then this may be right for you. (This is not meant to be sarcastic.)

Pros

- Smart colleagues - Small teams and most managers are easy to talk to and very technical - 100% health care coverage - Other usual benefits like 401k(no match), medical, dental, Life, STD, LTD,.. - Flexible work schedule - Good work life balance - Quality Free Lunch everyday

Cons

- This is the single most reason why good people are leaving this company. This company has the worst performance review practice in the industry ever. Reviews are often late by 5+ months and Comp increases are nonexistent/negligible. Don't expect Compass to up your pay even to adjust for inflation. Compass is all talk and will setup shows every week during review cycle that will appear to look like they are helping you. Don't fall for it, actually it' s a never ending reality show and not sincere. At the end of every cycle you will find the P&C people (usually hired as contractors) responsible for helping with comp reviews done in a timely manner fired/quit. Its a show like I said and its intentional and happens during every cycle. The idea is to keep you working here on a sub par pay for as long as it can. Don't believe me ? If you interview here, ask when was the last time the performance review was on time. - The base pay here is sub par. So much so that you could probably get better pay at series C/B startups in the area. The strike price is formidably high that you may have to shell out 50K+ if you want to buy your options for any reason after they vest. - Down leveling is the norm here. If you are considering an offer it's important for you to ask about the levels because your base pay depends on it. - They have 2 health care plans. The 100% company paid free health care plan is JUNK. You will pay a few thousands in deductibles and copays per year.

Pros

Nice coworkers and AMAZING food. Decent hours. Recruiting is great at finding talented people with drive which creates a fun, collaborative but there is absolutely no trajectory for a career when you arrive. Every department appears to be a revolving door of employees.

Cons

The reviews on this site are completely falsified. I have witnessed members of the Marketing team being forced to enter them. Compass has (ironically) absolutely no sense of where the company is going and what they value. Executives could not be less transparent (or more transparently at odds with each other). Reffkin is a nice guy with a ton of charisma and absolutely no idea what his employees or company want/need. He promises agents everything he can think of with no idea that Compass cannot deliver. Compensation is an absolute joke unless you are in business development or an equally visible department. There is no unified vision and priorities change WEEKLY. People & Culture team notoriously robotic and out of touch. Impossible to grow a career here. Agents are promised the world and arrive at just another brokerage (as an agent-facing employee, it is your job to disillusion them). Many departments are chronically understaffed and under-appreciated.
