Successful Startup W/ Lot of Potential to Become a Successful Business, But Possibly Not a Successful Tech Company
Pros
- You will have solid, smart co-workers that are, for the most part, down-to-earth and approachable - There are accessible opportunities to be responsible for large projects owning full software life cycle - There is a genuine collaborative environment between Product + Engineering + Design - Compass will likely be a very successful business
Cons
- The Company mission feels superficial; if you're coming for the mission i.e. to "Help Everyone Find Their Place in the World", you might not get that impression in your day to day. Despite the nice sentiment, the reality of the situation is that you very much feel like you're building tools for real estate agents because... that is what you're doing. Even if there is truth in the mission statement, the feeling does not emanate from your work; it's hard to feel like the work you do is really benefitting the world when the company only operates in luxury or high-end real estate markets across the country. Consider even, that the tools that are being made for real estate agents, who despite their notorious reputation, are just normal people. But even then, the sense of importance of technology (your work) is limited by this audience's lack of familiarity, lack of appreciation and resignation in using the provided tooling. If you're looking for something that makes you feel morally satisfied, then I'd recommend looking elsewhere. If you're hoping you can make some tools that change an industry that doesn't really want to be changed without being given any real feeling of appreciation, then this may be right for you. (This is not meant to be sarcastic.)
