Pros

Wonderful colleagues, Remote work, nice benefits, agent-facing platforms are tech forward

Cons

Annual performance reviews are not based on merit - admittedly so, employees are rewarded with promotions (for loyalty rather than experience). Non-agent-facing platforms are extremely behind in technology, managers lack experience, HR is another arm of management, VERY poor employee retention and high turnover, internal opportunities for growth are met with several roadblocks

So busy moving fast they can’t figure out what they are doing

Pros

Company is growing, generous benefits intent is good to be a company of choice

Cons

Company is moving so fast that it is losing good talent, no right leadership in place, HR is so busy catering to leadership to make them happy can’t figure out how to provide more organization and actually hire the right people to do the work, and know when to say “No” and prioritize .. so disconnected from day to day on systems processes and what employee need and want chaotic and everyone is clueless, overworked and overwhelmed. Transparency and communication is just horrible across teams and departments. High turnover perhaps HR should pause and ask why they have such high turn over versus how many people they are hiring.

Pros

The agents at Compass are truly some of the best in the industry

Cons

The executive team will not accept being challenged. Compass is a traditional brokerage that spend a ton of money on technology and employee retention, but it is unsustainable as they give outsized commission splits to their (high quality) agents but do not earn any additional $’s to pay for their extravagant spend elsewhere. In other words, they have spent $100’s of millions of dollars pretending they are a technology difference maker in the industry that commands a multiple relative to the competition, but all they are is a smaller version of them that just happens to spend a lot more money.
