Pros

*Very nice people *Free coffee *Relatively high pay for a blue collar town

Cons

*Lack of job security and stability - Every employee wonders from day to day if they will have a job at the end of the day. It has become the culture of that company that the employee must "find work." -There are layoffs and furloughs weekly *Low Tech -This is a very low tech company. In comparison to other Johnstown companies, it may seem high tech. However, the truth is that CTC is low tech. There is no ground breaking technology that is grown at CTC. Most of the computing solutions are based from piecing together existing off-the-shelf systems. *No Product Line -The business development team has never been able to put together any sort of in demand product or product line that can be sold elsewhere. They might occasionally develop a custom product then try to modify it and sell it elsewhere a few times. However, they have no long term product with any longevity. The bulk of the work is short contracts. *Politics Being in a small town, there is nepotism. For example, there used to be a very strict unlikeable program manager with a very military style. This person was unable able to lead without his military ways. This person had a daughter (who wore very inappropriate clothing) that automatically received an intern position. *Under qualified upper management incompetent in strategic planning The strategic plans written by upper level management are a complete joke. They are not goal/action/measure based plans. Rather, they are mish mash of ideas on paper. *Under qualified upper management is incompetent and lacks experience outside CTC Many of the upper management folks have climbed their way up the ladder over the years. That can be good for them but they have little or no experience outside CTC. They do not have significant experience and lessons learned working at other companies. *Waste money on ineffective investments The company took a big risk and invest a lot of money into a "branding" initiative. In short, they hired numerous consultants to give a day long presentation on the importance of branding. It had to be extremely expensive because CTC paid every employee to be there in addition to the costs of the consultants, transportation, conference center rental etc. Branding is a good concept but it simply does not apply to government contracts. Sure people say that they want Starbucks, Nike, Harleys, Apple, etc. But no government agency says that they want a brand of CTC, Northropp, Lockheed, Booz, Harris, etc. A government contractor brand simply does not stand out. There simply is no application of branding in this business. *Internal Tech Support (ISMO) moves at the speed of government The internal technical support team moves very slow and is inefficient. Tasks that should take hors end up taking months. For example, it might take a month to get shared development space. Or it might take a month to get a simple development VM set up. *Company is not proactive investing in new technology CTC is a very reactive technology. They do not want to first develop and expertise by investing in education and training. Rather, they insist on getting projects where they have little or no experience and learn as they go. CTC has very little expertise in Cyber Security, Big Data Systems, mobile solutions. They might have some projects with a handful of junior level programmers but they do not have any true expertise in some very hot fields.

Pros

Good pay and benefits, flexible hours, good coworkers, nice facilities

Cons

Management in Johnstown is out of touch with client needs; seems like they are wasting money on worthless initiatives that could be used to invest in the company's employees (e.g., training, certifications, etc); limited opportunity for promotion; culture of entitlement in Johnstown office

Pros

Good staff work ethic at local Johstown office. Competitive benefits and salaries. Finally got rid of one of the worst COOs on the planet.

Cons

No customer focus. Very diversified across markets with very little deep expertise. Inward looking management in full blown denial of its many issues. People are not valued. Integrity is espoused not maintained. CEO spends most of his time forcing direct reports to spend their time convincing each other that things are going well.
