Great opportunity/Failure breeds negativity

Pros

Softmart, as a small business, has remained competitive with largest IT organizations in the country. So much so that PC Connection just purchased the company. I've been lucky enough to work for the manager of the Big East Team that will do everything in his power to help his employees and stick with them while they try to earn a career. In what could be viewed as a small company with limited resources prior to the PC Connection purchase; the one resource in management that you could always count on to "go to battle" for you is the manager of the Big East. Softmart has provided the time and ability for its employees to grow reach their goals; I consider myself fortunate to have been provided that opportunity and work under the manager of the Big East.

Cons

Everyone knows about the 80/20 rule in sales. It is a shame that people who aren't successful feel the need to spread negativity and namelessly attack others. I find it appalling that after Softmart has given so much to help people achieve their goals that some would turn around and try to harm the organization through cowardly slander. A big "CON" is people that blame others for their inability to reach success.

Pros

I decided to write this review because of the multiple negative reviews that have been posted about this company. Softmart is a great place to work. The company was recently acquired by PC Connection, and the executives are working diligently on making the merge happen smoothly. Of course there will be some bumps in the road with any acquisition, but both entities are being diligent and making fair decisions on the next steps. I'm getting a little sick of everyone jumping on the bandwagon to anonymously bash Softmart. Softmart is not dishonest to their clients. Integrity is one of the values that it upholds. Softmart has free breakfast, lunch and dinner for all of its employees on a regular basis. Yes, there are also sales only meals, but these usually come with training or internal meetings. The benefits are great. The company is very family oriented, we get very little pushback on needing to deal with family issues (unless, of course you are one of the people that takes advantage of the good nature of people, then it starts to get old). Employees get free training and certifications. Also the company holds contests for all employees to win money and prizes. Not just sales - the whole company. What other sales company has two drawings for contests so that the operations folks feel included and the pots are equal to the sales pot. Many of the people that work at Softmart have been working there for a long time. There is promotion from within, most of our management staff rose up through the ranks. As far the horrible racist executives that run rampant through the building - the complaints were investigated and handled by HR and whatever their investigation uncovered must have been enough to prove that the complaints were either unfounded or blown out of proportion. Now it feels more like a personal vendetta to me and that people have taken to the anonymity of the internet because the cards didn't fall the way they wanted. I am loyal to Softmart because they have treated me right for many, many years, and that's why I wanted to post this message.

Cons

The rumor mill at Softmart is atrocious. People need to stop listening to the garbage that is being circulated and take a long hard look at that gift horse before posting additional anonymous negative comments. One negative is that there are a lot of good people at Softmart that get jaded and sucked into the negativity. Please think about what rumors you are spreading before you do it. Typically it is not constructive and more often than not, it is not true. Another negative is that we will probably be having some upcoming lay offs due to redundancy. I would think long and hard about being part of the rumor mill if you want to stay with this company and watch as we become more and more successful as the acquisition settles.
