Hello and thank for your review! It looks like you didn’t get to experience what we are really all about. Like you, we believe that taking care of our associates is our first priority, and that is why we have so many programs to invest in the development and engagement of our teams – like functional training, cultural training, leadership training, and wellness and recognition programs. Without our associates, we wouldn’t be as successful as we are, and we value every opportunity to grow and improve our craft. Our industry is definitely an all-hands-on-desk environment, and all hands are constantly on deck at all levels – we work hard so our residents can live easy. Sometimes, that culture and drive isn’t the right fit for everyone, and that’s okay. We wish you luck in your future efforts.

Pros

Great culture, flexible working hours, growing asset-base, plenty of availability for cool projects that require innovative thinking, creativity, and technical aptitude.

Cons

Salaries are generally good, but as much as they pride themselves on raises not being based on tenure, but rather skill, it's obvious that the overarching leadership in Accounting is flawed, as they don't have the technical capacity themselves to judge others', which leads to promotions that aren't well-suited, along with problems lingering for way longer than they should. They have great goals, but if you don't know who on your team is capable, then you're bound to be misled by your own team members taking advantage of their talking abilities, rather than their technical abilities.

Thank you for your thoughts! We’re glad to hear that you love our culture as much as we do. Our culture and associates are what place us a cut above the rest. We are constantly striving to implement ways to hire and retain high performers who can also serve as mentors to their team. To help drive our associates’ performance, we launched Rave, our recognition and feedback platform that allows every associate to offer feedback to anyone in the company. We love your ideas on cross-functional interactions and increasing the exchange of useful information between departments. We love the idea and will certainly put it on our to-do list!

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a rave review! We’re thrilled to hear that working for Cortland allows you to show off your skills and that the sky is the limit! You got it exactly right – we are an innovative, growing company which means that we’re always looking for ways to get better. Sometimes, that means shaking things up pretty often, but working out the growing pains is half the fun! We do things a little bit differently – it’s who we are – and these changes only make us better at what we do. We intend to keep inspiring you the same way that you inspire us to keep growing. Thank you for being such an amazing Cortland ambassador! #HaveTheCourageToBeBetter
