Pros

Supervisors, HR, directors and office managers are all super friendly, care about your success and comfort, and very clearly care about this work. There’s opportunity to become a trainer at 6 months (note that it’s less than a dollar pay increase so there’s not a big incentive). Training is paid and in-depth, you train with other newcomers too so that was helpful to navigate the experience together. When interviewing with other companies, Coyne stood out for the training program and insuring employees are prepared before entering a home alone. Seeing growth first hand in children is super regarding, knowing that you were apart of what made a difference in that child’s communication skills or general comfortability in life makes the hard days worth it. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable on a case, they take you seriously and work together to find a solution.

Cons

Scheduling and drive times can be frustrating. Typically clients are around 20 miles away, sometimes they’re close but it’s pretty rare from my experience. Occasionally they’ll give you a substitute session that’s 29 miles away which in OC means you’ll be driving for an hour. Typically they schedule those longer drives either first thing in the morning or last session of the day so you can’t get paid for any of the time or gas you spent driving which can be frustrating when you have an 8 AM session or end at 7 PM. However, luckily 7 PM end times are rare. You have to have a true passion for working with neurodiverse kids as you will be hit, bit, scratched, and have your hair pulled often. You will be working with parents almost as much as the kids, some of them are difficult, and it can be intimidating dealing with them, in their homes, without having a supervisor around to support. Burnout is so so common, however that’s more of an industry problem rather than Coyne.

Pros

The clients and families were wonderful and the direct interventionists were dedicated

Cons

Very oppressive admin with constant micromanaging, not in alignment with the neurodiversity movement, heavy DTT, not at all open to feedback on current research on best practices, very cultish with the "Coyne-isms", and repeated, "that's the Coyne way" as reasoning for shutting down new ideas
