Pros

-Definitely the people. Almost everyone I’ve gotten to work with has been smart, funny, and helpful. -Credit Karma really cares about its mission/members, and you feel good working there because you’re helping millions of people. -They try really hard to make it a great place to work. One of my favorite perks is the professional development program- they encourage employees to go out and take classes, go to conferences, etc. to further their growth. -The company’s doing really well!

Cons

-Lots of focus on hiring middle managers, instead of promoting from within, which is not a great experience for those who have been here for a while. (Also, what’s the point of having a professional development program if we aren’t given the opportunity to exercise our new skills/learnings?) -Teams aren’t treated equally- it seems like some have bigger budgets for team events and/or swag. -We talk a lot about being agile, but in my experience, things move super slowly around here. I’ve seen so many projects die after countless hours of meetings because they have to go through endless layers of approvals. -The pay is not great.

Pros

Noble mission Passionate people Quality teams Excellent leadership Product When you see the Head of Product sitting directly with dev teams, you know he's serious about being accessible and empowering teams. This is THE place for product folks wanting to make a difference in the world and to practice good product management. Design If you're a designer, you'll love it here. We really empower designers to own the projects from start to finish. They have such unbelievable influence that you just don't see in many other companies... It's awesome. We love our designers. Engineering Credit Karma probably values their engineers the most. Everyone's mission is to support the product and vision. Ever experienced the product teams handing down the specs like its a holy text? We work together here from the beginning to end of a project... And often than not, the engineers contribute most of the awesome ideas. :) --- Sounds too good to be true, but it's true.

Cons

None for me. Management really listens to the teams. Most of the cons people complain about are about ping pong tables and better snack selections. First world problems. :D I'm just typing because there's a 20 word minimum in this section. Everything's still really good!

Thank you for this glowing review! It's exciting to hear firsthand about your positive experience thus far at Credit Karma. Love the energy too! Of course, we don't want to take what we are building and the awesome culture we are preserving for granted. I'd love to speak to you if you have any fresh ideas on how we can ensure that your experience is always as such, if not continuously improving. If you are open, please come talk to me. We can grab lunch and brainstorm. Thanks again for taking the time to let us know how things are going!

Long-term employees are leaving or being pushed out

Pros

None beyond the perks already mentioned.

Cons

The heart of the company is slowly being ripped apart as long-term employees with deep institutional knowledge have quit in frustration or been let go. Terrible managers play politics and favorites and seem only concerned with covering their tails even if that means throwing employees under the bus. The future is looking dimmer everyday as there is no apparent plan to go public. New layers of management seem to be added every quarter to muck things up even more.
