Pros

The people (not management). Overall, pretty young work environment.

Cons

This is definitely just a Sales company, with very little respect for and focus on any other department. On most teams, your role is extremely dispensable, so always keep that in mind before getting too comfortable. Absolute 0 room for growth, people tend to leave after 2 years. The pay is absolutely terrible, for the amount of work you put in. Hourly employees are expected to work 42.5 hours a week with very little opportunity for OT unless you’re traveling for a client onsite (clearly not happening for a long time). You’re expected to sign a 2 year contract , and if you leave within the 2 years, the result is paying a very expensive invoice. All in all, this industry is slowly dying, so you’re better off looking elsewhere that pays more than 43K.

Pros

(Applies to headquarters, was there for 2 years...) - I learned a lot technically. Kinda felt like cramming for a final the entire time.. in a good way. - Forward-thinking technology goals - Beautiful and new office space -- good view, lots of natural light, nice cafe area - Very young company -- fresh ideas, attractive women, lots of hipsters, etc. - Lots of fun stuff to do in the area, either during lunch and after work - DC metro system recently finished metro line with a stop right at office Overall, I would recommend *IF AND ONLY IF* you are a new developer looking to advance your technical skillset, love the DC area, and are satisfied with the pay

Cons

- They burn you out like crazy. "Did a good job on that new feature last week? Good! Here's 3 features to do in half a week." Level of attrition proves this. - Most of codebase is total mess, and there is zero intervention/concern from upper management or upper tech people - Had some bad experiences interacting with the outsourced tech people - Still pretty old school when it comes to flexible work hours, remote work, manner of review/promotion systems, etc. - Commute/traffic

A Silicon Valley feel... in a very government-focused town

Pros

I recently made the move to Cvent... and the decision was a no-brainer, in my opinion. The office has a modern/slick feel to it, which is very fitting for an industry-leading software company. Cvent is truly unique, in the midst of the DC area. It has the feel of a Silicon Valley tech company, right in the heart of an area that is so saturated with government/government contracting. Because of the nature of the business in event management software and platforms, we have a very young and energetic employee base, that is eager to help grow the company even further. Senior management does a great job of being transparent about the state of the business and where they see it going. This helps the employee-base really believe in the business model.

Cons

The company is not your typical "9-5" structure, meaning they like seeing their employees put in a bit of the extra effort to help develop the business. A 45 hour week is the expected norm. I think for employees that are looking to just clock-in and clock-out everyday, Cvent is not the right fit... but for those employees that want to be part of a growing business and don't mind rolling up their sleeves acknowledging they can make a difference, those individuals can feel that sense of purpose in helping the company grow.
