Pros

You help people who can't communicate and it really feels like you make a difference. Your coworkers can be awesome.

Cons

Horrid management. You get treated like a number, not a person. Management only wants you to work like a zombie so they can fatten their checks while the interpreter slaves away at usually no more than 12.00/hr if you're Spanish speaking. Your talent is wasted, because they see you as a cash cow. Not only that you feel like your talent of being bilingual is not special. You will dread going in. They say the schedule is flexible, it really isn't. They fill you with false promises, and their benefits are crap ($2500 deductible you have to pay out of pocket). Management plays favorites, lots of inner office relationships with married Co workers. It's awful. Only two restrooms with 4 stalls each for a huge facility.

Pros

Company is young and offers a lot of opportunities to taste experience in all different departments within the company. They have momentum to possibly grow into a large part of the language interpretation market. Company has above average medical benefits and other benefits most other corporations no longer provide with minimal cost to employees.

Cons

Scheduling\breaks are not logical and borderline insane. The staff are generally mistrustful of each other and the company with good reason. Management has no empathy for human needs such as breaks\restrooms, acknowledgement of good work, or time off. The staff generally has no official training, are fearful of losing their positions, and even tend to play childish games on each other to gain recognition or hinder others image. If you are salary..expect a 60-80 hr work week. Do not expect management to honor any type of verbal or written agreements you make with them and they only welcome "yes sirs" so be careful thinking outside of the box

Pros

Paid training with breaks. Good coffee. Chat with other fellow terps.

Cons

Once hired, Cyracom becomes your life. Forget about going to potty or eating. If you get sick you have no job. No if ands or buts. You're a corporate wage slave. Management trains Spanish interpreters to be Mexified. This means use Mexican Spanish words and slang. Spanish speaking LEP's are not all Mexican and our job is to communicate clearly to everybody, not just Mexicans. Some Mexican terps complain that they cannot understand Caribbean Spanish speakers. Isn't that your job? If you are an English to French interpreter and you can't understand English speakers with accents unfamiliar to you then you are no interpreter but a call center representative that operates as an interpreter to provide customer service. You can't use that lazy excuse if you were a court interpreter. This is the McDonald's of interpretation and if this is truly your calling explore the courts and more professional environments that will truly test your Spanish game. But to break into those echelons you need to invest a lot money and become certified. They try to robotize terps as evidenced by their instructions and commands. I suspect that the company does this because once AI takes over, they'll create algorithms using all of our audio and have no use for human terms. Find yourself a real career and run from this dead end. This is no different than the now defunct Corinthian colleges that were diploma mills only you get paid for them to download your consciousness.
