Firm politics can be very overwhelming

Pros

DLA Piper offers great training and learning opportunities for its associates; large pay raises and bonuses when you meet the 2000 billable hour requirement.

Cons

Given the enormous size of the firm, you can quickly get lost in the firm politics if you do not have a supportive partner/sponsor. The old-boys network is still alive and well at the firm. Diversity and retention of diverse attorneys is lacking.

Pros

The attorneys who worked in my office were good attorneys and very nice people. Had all the legal support (paralegals, word processing support, legal assistants) befitting a large law firm.

Cons

No cohesive corporate culture. Split personalities from office to office with no sense of the larger whole. Felt as though my particular office was totally on its own. No connection to any other office, either in the US or across the globe.
