You can be mediocre forever

Pros

This company has a pretty laid back feel. The company is going through rapid growth so job security is not an issue. There are significantly different work experiences for in-house and remote employees.

Cons

The Point of Sale industry is a technological laggard and DUMAC is no different. It can be hard to keep current and stay relevant in the technology job market while working in this sector for any length of time. Pay is significantly behind the market.

Used to be good place to work before HR joined Dumac

Pros

I have been with Dumac for several years now. Good pay. PTO is fair. Paid company lunch monthly. Management is easy to work with and listens for the most part. Challenging career. I hear people complain about training in these reviews, but I believe you can learn if you take the initiative on your own. Very rewarding career when problem solving comes to fruition.

Cons

Since the 2 HR employees came to Dumac, things have gone down hill. I used to come to work and feel like I was part of a team striving for the same goal "happy satisfied customers", with attention to efficient use of company resources so Dumac can remain solvent. Now I feel more like a non human cog in a wheel, because HR has implemented lots of ridiculous procedures because of a few irresponsible employees. Too much micro managing so people don't blossom on their own. This creates a non productive and stifling atmosphere.

Pros

The people you work with are great and many are willing to put in the extra hours to get the job done. Management is pretty good and has come a long way in creating solid departments who gets the job done. Raises every year help and the occasional bonus is a nice perk. Good amount of PTO, especially if you've been there for awhile. A decent benefits package (though healthcare is a tad expensive). Free Lunch Friday is always a nice perk!

Cons

HR, HR, and did I mention HR? I've worked here for a long time and I've seen the changes. It's becoming more and more hostile, with HR micromanaging everyone's work lives. Between dragging people in for perceived "infractions" against whatever ridiculously overreaching policy they have enacted to soon requiring us to use our badges to come in so they know exactly what time you came in the door (you know, so they can compare it to your time card and make sure yo're not "lying" or whatever), to their horrific "see something say something" tattle tale program, they are simply the WORST. They don't care about the employees. DUMAC used to be a company you were happy to come to work for, where you felt the atmosphere was friendly and everyone was looking out for each other. Not so much anymore, which is a shame. Just look at review after review that mentions the HR team and the hostile working environment they're creating. SOMETHING needs to be done.

As always, I appreciate the feedback but I do need to clarify several items you mentioned. Since I oversee the HR Department, I can speak to the fact that we do care about employees and want you to succeed. If you’ve been working at DUMAC for a long time as you stated, you would know first-hand that we haven’t had many polices or procedures. That may seem like a positive to some but in reality it is not. DUMAC has made the decision to implement processes to be consistent and fair in how we handle issues as they come up. That’s a good thing. I would be more than happy to explain to you what a hostile work environment is. Setting expectations and holding employees accountable for those expectations is not. We want employees that have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and take ownership for their actions. Regarding the importance of making sure everyone is badging into the building, this is for the safety of everyone that works here and it’s unfortunate that something so simple and easy to do has caused you such frustration. Change can be challenging for some and I can understand that, but making statements that are untrue is disappointing. I’m more than happy to address any additional concerns you may have.
