Pros

- Decent pay - Generous time off - Co-workers and clients are good people A stepping-stone job to gain professional experience in the workplace. If you do work you'll most likely be compensated fairly. Most co-workers and people are fantastic. Clients are great and looking for help which you can provide through company's proprietary products.

Cons

- Mom n' Pop shop trying to be a bigger company - Poorly established company hierarchy structure - Reactive, not proactive, towards pretty much everything - Using outdated technology - Don't value key contributors - Don't value or push for growth or are unaware/oblivious as to how Managers unfortunately suck up to any/all owners' wishes and are disconnected from staff since they're too busy managing clients. They can't train new project managers since they're too busy with their own clients while also trying to manage company workload. This is less than ideal since staff are great and (mostly) do good work but company doesn't know how to identify good/poor workers or how to move forward with making people better through training and investing in staff. This leads to many issues down the line as good analysts get stuck with poor project management which affects company's bottom line and deliverable deadlines...but who is to blame?! Company is solely interested in, and persistent with, keeping client relations good and content so they keep getting paid. No clear path for upwards mobility, this just isn't a thing here. Annual reviews with decent pay raises if company/managers trust/like you. Redundant work with outdated software. Skills applicable elsewhere are few unless you actively pursue and apply them yourself. Currently, and for the past few years, they've been understaffed and have had inexperienced project managers, which leads to project setbacks and many other issues, due to high turnover rates. This has been a trend for 6+ years. All the best people have consistently left. No one sticks around for more than a few years yet company has failed to notice or just ultimately aren't concerned with this. Those that have stuck it out are paid more however what else? The company doesn't have a plan for them. I'd advise to them to seek new waters which provide something better than just a paycheck which will help propel their careers for the long haul. Those who have gotten out and have stayed in touch are much, much happier.

Dear Former Employee, You raise a lot of issues in this post. There are some kernels of truth I think, and some advice that I’d agree with (like “people are the most important” and “transparency, honesty, and openness are good things”) but I do take issue with much of your characterization of the company in the post. I do not think it would be productive to go tit-for-tat on each point in this space but if you, or anyone else, would like to have a conversation about concerns or ideas, please call me directly. That said, I have to take issue with the claim that the “best” people have consistently left. The best people are at Deccan right now, working hard, solving problems, innovating, pushing us forward. Of course there are some departed colleagues that we dearly miss, but I can say without hesitation that there has never been a better group of people comprising the Deccan staff. The team is strong, and getting stronger every day. People at Deccan truly put their heart and soul into what we do. We know we have room for improvement, and literally are working on improving every single day. I would be happy to share more details with anyone who is interested. Just call the main number and ask for me. Thanks, Jon Elson

Pros

Over the past few years, Deccan International has received a bad rap on Glass Door. This review is an honest evaluation. I'm not in management and I was not asked to write this review. Deccan is a great place to work. They have a great suite of products, a good management team and GREAT employees. The software that they write is versatile enough that small agencies as well as large agencies can benefit. I worked for Deccan for just over one year and I can honestly say that I have enjoyed each and every day. Deccan offers flexible working hours and good. Management has said several times that they have an open door policy and this is the first company that I have worked for where that is 100% true. From the President & CEO down to supervisors, they are willing to talk to employees anytime. Management encourages a balance between work and life balance and encourage people to take time off (this is something that I have never seen before) to maintain a good balance. I can honestly say that I truly enjoyed my time at Deccan and recommend this company to anyone that is looking for an employer that will be fair, honest and have your best interest in mind.

Cons

I can only think of two things in the Cons section. Currently the company doesn’t offer a 401(k) and the company doesn’t cover the cost of dependents for the medical benefit. Both of these issues have been raised to management’s attention and they have advised everyone at one of the quarterly “All Hands Meeting” that they are currently looking into both issues to get the best options.

Pros

Working with Fire and EMS departments is rewarding. Deccan's clients are friendly and great to interact with. Company's businesses location is convenient and easy to get to.

Cons

Management is difficult to work with. They use intimidation tactics and employees are told that can be replaced. Upper management does not share policies with employees. CEO hires family members who do not seem qualified to run operations. No retirement packages are offered (401k) which may be because upper management expects a lot of turn over (which is the norm). Upper management seems more concerned with how much money they are making and does not really value employees.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for taking the time to share your input. I take input from our current employees very seriously. The issues you bring up in this post are things that we have been working on very diligently, especially for the past year or so. Currently, we are open about company policies and we offer a very competitive benefits package. Current employees know that they can come and talk to me, or their department directors, or our HR manager at any time. I actually do talk with our current team of dedicated, top-notch employees all the time both about things that are working as well as areas where we still need to improve—whether that’s with company policies, future plans, benefits, etc. I welcome any input from current employees, whether positive or negative. I have really appreciated our current employees’ willingness to come talk to me directly about their thoughts and ideas about the company and I truly believe that it is only through that type of open communication that Deccan will continue to thrive. Thank you, Jonathan Elson Vice President of Operations
