Pros

The Account Executive position at Dell provides a lot of room for dynamic movement, ability to get the job done and freedom to make it happen. As long as requirements were in line as far as finance and management is concerned, I was able to make most of the decisions I felt necessary in my accounts.

Cons

If you bet wrong on your decision choice, or the market goes against you, it is your neck on the line. However, this is the same for most AE positions in the tech industry. Tough thing about Dell is the quota load is high, and the pressure to achieve the quota is very high. The company is run on a very short turn ROI, so if management has made an investment in an account somewhere along the line, they need to see that return within a short number of months.

Pros

Strong brand name which is easily recognized on a resume for fast paced growth, unique business model and advanced manufacturing techniques... at least in the past anyway

Cons

Lots of stress / low morale - wondering everyday when your job will be cut. Shifting strategies which haven't met expectations. Most of the top talent has already abandoned ship.

Dell Experience

Pros

Broad exposure and responsibilities pushed to middle to low level employees. A good place to build a robust experience and tough hide, and favors the employee that can spot and stay ahead of trends, and invests in their own development.

Cons

Success is rewarded and recognised, however career development is mostly in the hands of the employee and their ability to gain visibility and have the right network of supporters. Support functions, especially HR are resourced at bare bones and disjointed which can result in some perils to the person who makes an internal move without a lot of due dilligence. Leadership is not well unified, and strategic initatives tend to have trouble gaining traction due to internal conflict and high exec turnover.
