Pros

Great time-off. Great health care options. Ability to work from home. Opportunity to travel all over the country, racking up hotel points and airline miles. Exposure to many different client and opportunities.

Cons

I always pose a question to people that are considering working for any division of Deloitte (RFA, Tax, Audit, Consulting): why do you think the benefits and pay are so good? ... ... It's because working at Deloitte often can completely consume every aspect of your life. I work in Risk and Financial Advisory (RFA). Think of RFA as the cousin to Deloitte Consulting: we do very similar consulting work, but are very niched into a specific industry, sector, specialty; we're often called subject matter experts (SMEs). The cornerstone for both RFA and Consulting is traveling: waking up around 3am every Monday, flying to the client site, working 9-12 hour days Monday-Thursday, and then fly back home on Thursday night (should your flight not get canceled that is). Hours spent in the airport. Hours spent commuting in an Uber/Lyft. Living out of a suitcase in a different hotel room every week. No ability to cook your own dinners. Add on top of that sitting in traffic, going through TSA every week, and bouncing around in the sky on turbulent flights. If you grow weary of traveling and wish to stay local, know that the firm will not have your back. You will face pressure to travel, and if you choose to sit without a project and wait for a local opportunity, your performance and pay raise/bonus will suffer. In a down market, sitting on the bench like this for a long period of time greatly increases the odds of getting laid-off. Remember this: do your homework before applying to any consulting job - I mean REALLY do your actual homework. Talk to current employees, former employees, professors, recruiters, etc. Know the game you are getting yourself into. Consulting for a few years is a doable endeavor by most people, but beyond that, consulting requires a very specific personality type and someone who defines themselves by their career. If you choose to stay in the game long-term know that your life will probably click away very quickly, and you may look back at all that time lost with family and friends with regret. Know that if this comes to pass, Deloitte will not blink an eye or give you any sympathy.

Pros

Based on the scatter plot, Deloitte is at the top. Like from the moment you start, til even last week(2 yrs later), Deloitte consultants carry themselves like they are the best. As an experienced Manager hire with extensive tech experience, I found the job rather unexciting. I made many positive contributions and did well with my clients. Also, In all honesty, I (you) can do whatever you want at Deloitte if you are positively contributing to utilization. By whatever you want, I mean vacation, training, set your schedule, meet up and interact with whoever you want, eat & drink with who you want. Overall Deloitte is welcoming with a bit ( maybe a lot ) of “what can you do for me.” If you can positively contribute, it will keep you in the average category at mgr level. It takes a LOT more to get to the next Level. That takes a game plan, luck, hard work and clarity of how you transform yourself Deloitte way.

Cons

For new hires (first 1-2 yrs), what Deloitte really wants is a capable doer who is happy in a supporting role. Don’t even think about getting overt credit or shining above the status quo. That is definitely a deadly sin, politically. You might want to know why would you expect that? Most of those hired have been high performers and are used to getting credit due. I thought that coming in and making all metrics would be considered success. Well for many,no. Because more than 50% of the current staff is doing just fair, they will not tolerate “outsiders” shining. Or maybe the existing type A+ population just doesn’t want to make room for you? Back stabbing and active undermining will show up every where. The key here is - when am I no longer an “outsider?” The answer is when you have the clear support of 2 -3 PPMDs. Or 1 extremely powerful PPMD. While I feel my time at Deloitte is valuable, Deloitte is extremely complex and takes many. many relationships to continue upward career. Or it takes a very narrow path with extreme loyalty.

Pros

Great benefits, competitive compensation, good intentions at a high level to improve work life balance

Cons

Harsh, rude environment and culture, too many politics to play around. Work life balance is unrealistic if you want to succeed, considering that it is expected from you to work not just 60 +client work hrs but also on so many other firm activities.
