Pros

Being a Direct Support Professional is fulfilling because you make a real difference and grow personally. It often offers flexible hours and strong relationships, with varied tasks that keep the job interesting.

Cons

Being a Direct Support Professional can be tough. It's emotionally stressful and physically demanding and limited chances for promotion. Plus, there can be a lot of paperwork.

Pros

The clients are the only reason to work for this company

Cons

My experience with Devereux was akin to getting into a relationship with an abusive, manipulative man. It was all sweetness and light during the interview process, and then - bam! Power and control games, damage to self esteem and disrespect once you are in the door. Rampant favoritism, a management staff that has an overinflated sense of ego, and which encourages poor treatment of new staff. So glad I left.

Pros

working with kids and making a lasting impression in their lives.

Cons

SO many to list! We were always understaffed. Management wasn't professional and always blaming employees for things out of our control in order to save themselves. Management had NO idea what was truly going on in the units and would show up to do perfunctory walk throughs when important people would show up. Staff was consistently getting hurt and then subsequently fired because the company did not want to pay their medical bills. There is an us against them attitude between the nurses and the rest of the staff. Your shift quality depended heavily on who you worked with. Honestly, this by far was the worst job I've ever held in my life and it made me leave mental health despite my degrees in psychology. Treatment is a joke and when kids age out the company sends them to homeless shelters. Upper management ALWAYS took the side of the clients even when there was overwhelming evidence they were lying, Working there you always felt like you were on defense. Many times we were investigated by the state and before the interviews you were told what to say, which is totally illegal. This company has no soul and it will gladly suck yours right out of your body.
