Unethical, Illegal, no training - not in the best interest of any child or family - HORRIBLE experience
Pros
They will "sponsor" international people to come to the US...but then they are viewed as and treated as property
Cons
There are way too many "cons" to write about, so let's just take on the most heinous issues: Unethical - Senior level managers falsified documentation during licensure review; managers and other staff are told to create documentation for children they have never met (due to constant staff turnover when staff leave their positions without completing documentation); managers look the other way when staff lie and say they provided services that they never provided; staff turnover is so out of control that the children aren't even phased when staff (and services) suddenly disappear for long timeframes until they finally get a new staff to suddenly just show up one day; new staff are "thrown to the wolves" with no training or access to policy & procedures and are then constantly threatened with disciplinary action for not following policy & procedure; consistently cover up abuse of the children in their care; no training provided to all levels of staff when they switched to a new documentation software - consequently, critical information needed for children's treatment was non-existent. Illegal - they do not pay non-essential staff for federal holidays citing that they have a lot of international staff that work for the agency so they do not observe federal holidays-if you don't want to work on a holiday (say like Thanksgiving or Christmas) you have to submit a request for time off to your supervisor in advance and hope that they'll let you use your vacation time for that holiday; they violate federal hiring and federal labor laws; they threaten staff with disciplinary action up to termination if they talk to anyone about any illegal or unethical incidents they have witnessed or that have been done to the staff-they not only create a hostile working environment, but also threaten and carry out retaliatory action. These are just a few examples of how Devereux operates on a daily basis. The staff morale is horrible and management displays blatantly mean behavior toward the staff. Management also actively pits staff against one another and does not provide staff with needed support or supervision. They pay a low salary and expect you to work as many hours a week to meet unrealistic expectations - the mileage reimbursement is even worse.
