Pros

I love the people I work with. I've never worked with such over all amazing people, from fellow guides, to supervisors, managers, etc. Everyone I've met is so genuine, intelligent and kind. The pay is solid (higher than average), and they do their best to listen to feedback and make changes based on feedback.

Cons

The benefits outside of pay are average. They hire people who have been CEOs, managers, etc for entry level positions (probably why the pay has to be so good). It ends up creating an overly competitive environment, and its very difficult to move up. Communication is fully through slack/instant messaging so it's not easy to organize information in a way that makes sense to the individual, everything gets thrown at you from all the company channels you have to be a part of. I would venture to guess that this is why interdepartmental communication is so terrible. The supervisors appear to be very overworked and are almost always running late because they get scheduled back to back meetings and the meetings typically don't end on time. When I was first hired members were for the most part very kind, but it appears devoted is not scaling at the proper capacity in order to meet member needs. We used to get maybe one complaint a week, now expect to get multiples a day.

Thank you so much for giving us your honest feedback. We are very happy that you recognize part of what makes Devoted an amazing place to work - namely, our “amazing people!” We also are firm believers that hearing your concerns can only help us improve. That said, regarding our benefits, Devoted has a strong commitment to taking care of our employees´ physical, mental and emotional health. Our benefits strategy is designed to support all aspects of our employees lives by offering a fully funded (premium free) health plan (including dental and vision) for employees and all dependents. We offer competitive time off, holidays and a 401K plan. We believe that hiring Guides from a range of backgrounds is our strength, and all Guides have an equal opportunity to pursue multiple career paths both within the Guide team and elsewhere at Devoted. We are continuing to grow, and as we do so, new positions are created all the time. It’s an exciting company to be part of, and Guides are perfectly positioned to be on a journey towards success. Slack does take some getting used to if you have not used it in a previous job, but once you do, it allows for easy and quick communication, transparency, and positive collaboration. We give our Member Service Guides regular time off the phones so that they can catch up on any messages they may have missed. As for interdepartmental communication, there is always room for improvement. We have different initiatives underway that we are so happy to hear will have an impact on Guide satisfaction, and we are always looking for ways to improve our connections with other teams. We understand that working in a high-growth, fast-paced environment is not for everyone. Everyone who works at Devoted keeps a busy schedule, but our leaders are committed to supporting Guides in every possible way. When it comes to our members, anyone who works in a customer-facing job can understand that you may speak to a happy customer or a dissatisfied one. These are difficult times, especially for our older population, which can sometimes influence the way they present themselves on phone calls. Because we know that sometimes members may express themselves in ways that can be challenging for some Guides, we have resources in place, including a unique stress reduction program, to help our Guides feel loved and supported. Member Service Guides are critical to the mission of Devoted Health, and we continually strive to make the work experience of a Member Service Guide as supported, healthy, and joyful as possible.

Pros

I became a nurse over 15 years ago to make a difference in people's lives. I loved my work and patients so much I went into Advanced Practice. However in recent years, the fractured bureaucracy of our healthcare system battered my spirit to what I felt was the point of no return. After the first wave of covid fried me beyond a crisp, I walked away from medicine for what I thought would be the last time. While pursuing other passions I stumbled across a job posting at Devoted. I admittedly only applied thinking I needed some short-term income to support myself during a career transition. What I found was a company of brilliantly-minded, compassionate, hard-working people who were building something novel to address the growing problems with healthcare delivery in the U.S. I googled the founders, Todd and Ed Park, and read interviews where they talk about putting the principle of Love at the center of all they do- not just regarding patients - but also in how they treat their employees and structure the health plan. Their tremendous leadership trickles down the organization in palpable ways. My colleagues are the most kind and talented people I have met in my career. Coming from a previously jaded individual (I spent most of the first year waiting for an imaginary veil to be removed and the true underbelly of the culture to be revealed)- something about this company is magic. I am honored to be a part of building something that will undoubtedly change the future landscape of healthcare delivery in our broken world. <3 Thank you, Devoted, helping me fall back in love with my profession.

Cons

This is a very fast paced, start-up, tech-heavy company. Processes, programs, staffing and management change very quickly as we adapt to rapid growth every quarter. This kind of environment is not for everyone. You have to have the right mix of adaptability and openness balanced against commitment and drive for excellence to succeed in this environment. Some days/ weeks/ months are harder than others as processes and products rapidly change. What makes it palatable is the people (I lean on my colleagues a lot on hard days) and the generous benefit package (including ample PTO, mental health support, etc) to offset the rigorous demands of the workplace. Also, while working from home is awesome- going from a more active to a mostly sedentary job can be tough on the waistline! :)

Pros

Promise of doing healthcare differently, they portray that want to treat members like family.

Cons

No work life balance, little training or support from leadership team, but expectation of high performance in little time. Was let go for what was called a performance issue, but believe it was a result of misalignment with organizational strategy and interpretation of regulations and requirements. Was not given a severance, was told you are paid through today and your health benefits end today (but you are more than welcome to continue them through cobra). This was appalling, and not how you would treat your family.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are sorry to hear that you are left feeling this way. Devoted has a rigorous performance management process that involves written and verbal communication of performance issues in a transparent and collaborative manner. Any exceptions are rare. Devoted does have a generous severance package which is distributed fairly and equitably. Insurance coverage does end on the last day of employment but employees have the ability to elect cobra for continued coverage as needed.
