Pros

The pay and the people. The pay starts off generally better than other retail stores. You can get a 10% pay increase if you actually meet their outrageous pay quota every six months. However, it is possible if you just steal sales from other employees. Then, you are just making serious enemies.

Cons

Associates are fighting tooth and nail for sales, as they are based on a quota system. If biyearly quotas are not met, expect a 10% decrease in pay. Usually they will just fire you first, before you actually get your pay decreased anyway. Management are just over-glorified sales associates that were "sharky" enough to make their sales qoals and get promoted.

internship and work experience at Dillards.

Pros

Dillards has a great training program and they also have lots of opportunities They also have numerous internships available for either buying or store management if you are a college student. I did an internship with them and was offered a assistant sales area manager and was offered a $37,000 salary. It's a great company to work for if you want to work in retail. I think they care more about their employees versus other retailers. Through my experiences I felt they were the warmest and felt some rudeness from the Macy's crew.

Cons

They are extremely traditional. They do not advertise or have sales frequently.

Dillards standards drop dramatically

Pros

The discount is very inticing, and with sales you can outfit yourself or your home for a small sum. They do offer extra discount days to employees fairly regularly.

Cons

Limitations of salary increases and ineffective management. Upper management who never speaks or even looks at you in passing but dosen't hesitate to scream at you if there's a problem. It's also difficult to not spend all your salary at Dillards, some pressure from dept. heads to help them "make their day" in sales.
