Pros

There is a great diversity of people that you work with and exposes you to different cultures and viewpoints. Discovery really takes care of the people they employ: great health care benefits and coverage, discounts to some of the best electronics companies, gift companies and exercise facilities. They always made their employees aware of things going on within the company, whether it had to do with the networks, education division, no matter which section. Even when my job and the facility I worked at were moved to an outside company in a different part of the country, I was aware that is was occuring almost a year beforehand! This is unheard of in today's workforce nowadays. They also provided a wonderful severance package and paid insurance that I have used so much with the birth of a son in the meantime.

Cons

There really is not too much that I can say about downsides of working for Discovery. The one thing that comes to mind is that there was not a lot of room for advancing in my office. This was mostly because it was a small office and the average length of employment there was about 12 years! Again, this is unheard of in most workplaces nowadays. In order for me to advance within the company, I would have had to move either to the corporate office or to one of the other offices across the country. Many of the offices were just as small as mine and were mostly sales offices though.

Pros

Pride in workplace product and the benefits package.

Cons

Lack of intelligent senior leadership. Growing from a privately held company to a publicly traded one is painful but I can honestly say that has nothing to do with this reveiw. It is real that we are all accountable now but some folks that should be paying closer attention just, well, aren't. Many changes have been made that are positive but this last blow was based purely on personality and not skill set. It is difficult to remain upbeat when your boss is afraid that you know more than they do about how to do thier job. It is difficult to keep up moral when you are worried about losing your job based on a personality rather than job performace.

Pros

Good benefits. Leading name brand. Flexible hours for the most part.

Cons

Been working for them for a while and I'm still earning less than industry average. As with any large corporation you get the same corporation BS that goes along with it.
