Pros

1. Excellent professional development. Dispel does a great job of encouraging their employees to branch out, and grow. They make an active effort to get people involved with the projects that interest them, so that they can grow into the job that they want to do as much as possible. 2. Great work-life balance. While there is always more work to be done, I've never felt discouraged from utilizing Dispel's unlimited PTO, or taking time during the day to get in some exercise or run a personal errand. As long as I am getting to all my meetings, and getting my work done well, then I feel I have the freedom to balance work and life as I see fit. Also, fully remote, work from home is a huge plus. 3. Friendly team members/atmosphere. Everyone on the operations team is so friendly and willing to help. I always feel welcome and supported if I reach out for help. This is especially exemplified in the mistake-making culture. I have had my fair share of mistakes at Dispel, and witness even more, but I have never seen anyone be berated for a mistake. It's simple. We all come together to fix the problem, and debrief/document how we can avoid the problem later (or at least fix it faster if it happens again) 4. Everyone is willing to help. Even outside the operations team, everyone I've ever reached out to at Dispel has been friendly and willing to help. I don't feel intimidated to direct message anyone on slack if I need their help!

Cons

1. Very busy and fast-paced. This can be a double-edged sword. I personally like working in a fast paced environment, but some people do not. I don't feel that I am overworked or pushed into things, but there is always a lot to do, and it can feel overwhelming sometimes. 2. Organization and prioritization can be a challenge. Keeping track of everything can be difficult, but senior members have always been willing to help me understand what I need to prioritize.

Pros

This is the happiest, most functional place I have ever worked. You have a question, you ask it. You think leadership is making a mistake, you call them with the facts and they listen. You want to try working in a completely different part of the company, they let you. There isn't any politicking because, if you can make it more than six weeks here, you are almost by definition competent and pulling your weight. We all came here because we wanted our work to matter. If you don’t sweat the details at Dispel, offshore rigs, factories, chemical plants, and a whole lot of critical infrastructure won’t function properly. That gets us fired up. On the corporate culture front, the place operates as a team of teams, and each team has its own vibe. That said, the whole company still gets together once a week (virtually) to hang out over pastry and a hot beverage, there is still cheering every time a big contract comes in, and when a team sends out a request for help, volunteers show up from all over the place.

Cons

Management has a "no snakes" policy they stick to even when it means not hiring a technical rockstar. I can see that it helps the culture in the long run, but it also slows things down. The company had a deeply engrained "we'll figure it out" mindset that meant people expected to work on problems every day that they had never encountered before. Now they have implemented roles for people who like to be taught how to do a thing, and then do exactly that thing every day. To be fair, they haven't slacked off looking for people who like to do crazy stuff, but it worries me that they are trying to create a space for people who don't like doing crazy stuff.

Pros

They have a good work/life balance . Everyone gets along and are eager to help one another. So far they have been able to weed out people who are self centered and ego driven.

Cons

None, really. So far it is the best company I have worked for. They don't pay on the upper end of the spectrum (perhaps mid range for the industry) but you also don't get the baggage that most other companies come with, i.e. red tape, pointless policies, draconian rules, etc.
