Lack of growth opportunities

Pros

At the level I was in, the work was relatively easy. Good company culture.

Cons

I would not recommend working for any low-level department in DoorDash is you are looking for growth opportunities. Promotions are few and far between and during my time with the company, the only way I saw someone leave was when they switched departments. Overall, there was a sense of disrespect for those at the very bottom. Lack of communication, lack of appropriate pay, and lacking opportunity. At one point I interviewed for the one and only promotion the department had posted in over a year and had the experience that made me walk away. I had a great interview up until the last round, questions were far from what was expected and something that no one at my level would know, I answered with what my personal opinion would be but the manager interviewing me was visibly off-put. I ultimately was not considered for the openings, and when I asked for feedback (fairly basic when it is an internal opening) the person I was interviewed with said to talk to my supervisor. At no point was my supervisor involved in my application or interview process, but I had to go to them. All that ended up happening was they read off the group excel sheet they were using to judge all candidates. Left the worst taste in my mouth and I left a few months later.

Pros

I can only speak to my experience at the company on the Enterprise Sales team. We have very good work-life balance and benefits. We have a host of paid holidays off, in addition to certain Fridays off (typically sandwiched on a long holiday weekend for a 4-day recharge), and have half-days every Friday.

Cons

There have been so many changes, quarter-over-quarter. This is coming from someone with extensive experience in early stage start-ups and is used to fast-paced and changing environments. With these quarterly changes, a lot of internal and other cross-functional teams are often confused. By the time (close) to everyone is on the same page, something else changes. It can be a frustrating selling experience, but the pros outweigh the cons in my opinion.

Pros

Providing incentives and rewards to its best drivers.

Cons

The company wastes an incredible amount of its drivers time Whenever they have to call in to resolve an issue. Scripted, apologies, and statements of “I understand“ from customer service representatives are exactly the same, no matter what the issue and are repeated over and over again. A simple.“Sorry about that, I’ll look into it“would an enormous amount of time. A second and probably more important problem is that drivers have no way of providing feedback about customers (customers are given the opportunity to provide feedback about drivers). Virtually every other gig business (Uber, AirB&B, etc.) provides the opportunity for its workers to evaluate the customer. If DoorDash did this, customers would be more likely to take the time to help drivers find them by writing instructions, and more likely to provide tips. This added balance in the driver/customer relationship is long overdue.
