Company has changed for the worse

Pros

Good benefits. Nice workout facility. Used to have a good leader in Bruce Kelley.

Cons

Company culture has changed to profits over people with the new management team in place. They advance people based on longevity with the company and technical knowledge, instead of who would be a good leader. They provide little leadership training. Very slow to make changes when needed. Diversity was pretty much a joke, at least all of the years I was with EMC.

Pros

Good PTO Volunteer time off Dress for your day (jeans almost every day) 401(k) match up to 4% Pension Des Moines Location has nice gym facilities reasonably priced cafeteria Work from Home or Flexible hours available great co-workers Christmas bonus Bonus based on results I've worked at another insurance company and I am so much happier here. I would recommend EMC to everyone and I do. When new positions are open, I reach out to people I think would thrive here. Which reminds me, there is a referral bonus too. Benefits are the best ever. You can use an HSA account but I really didn't need to put much in there which was awesome.

Cons

Emc is moving away from the Mapper system so that is good, but since we still use it I will list it as a negative. For those of you who do not know what Mapper is, it is a flat file system with very little flexibility. Most of the cons I can come up with are probably related to technology but they are working on it and do have some plans in place to remedy the situation. I think your career opportunities really depend on your manager and if he/she is willing to work with you on possible future endeavors. And I think opportunities are probably more prevalent in Des Moines than in the branch offices.

Technology is behind. We recently just got outlook. Still printing policies and no flexibility to work from home or flex time.
