Engineers beware

Pros

You'll notice all of the positive reviews come from sales. It's a great place to be if you are in sales. The product sells itself. It's an easy job.

Cons

I've been writing software for decades at many different companies. Staying as long as I did hoping that my work would be recognized was the single worst decision of my career. Low pay (25% below market on average). Poor benefits. Only friends and family of the CTO advance at this company. Even though I was in good standing with the company and had 'exceeds expectations' on all of my performance objectives, the CTO was spiteful that I was leaving and denied paying my bonus, even though my manager pleaded that I should receive it. I had a meeting with the CTO about a solution to the fundamental engineering problem they are trying to solve, and he turned around and took my idea as his own with zero acknowledgement . The CTO was wronged by Microsoft and is gutting the entire tech stack out of spite. There is no sound technical reason, and the rest of the engineering department suffers for it. They talk about their core values of trust, candor, humility, and respect, yet upper management is the exact opposite. If you are an engineer, run as far away from this place as you can.

Pros

Non-existent vacation plan means you can take vacation whenever you want. Very laid back environment work/life balance

Cons

Low pay Very poor management High expectations and no recognition The new executives are very shady and completely neglect local employees. Workers are not recognized and are exploited. The most dedicated people are now quitting left and right and not being replaced, rather their work is dumped onto under-staffed teams. The whole business model is backwards. There are too many projects, too few people, and poor or non-existent planning. Priorities change daily based on whatever the highest paying customer wants. I was treated extremely poorly for giving my two weeks. I should have waited for the bonus paycheck then walked out. Instead: I gave courtesy and my pay was slashed. Leaving was the best decision I've ever made

Pros

* Interesting work that makes a difference in peoples' lives. In fact, we literally save lives by helping contractors and insurance people stay on the ground instead of climbing up on roofs. Serious injury and death from falling really do happen. * Fun environment, great co-workers. * The pace is fast, but usually not hectic. There are occasional crunch times and needing to work long hours, but management is serious about keeping it to a minimum. They're apologetic when it happens, but also very appreciative of the effort. * Well-stocked kitchen with tons of snacks. It's mostly shelf-stable junk food, but they try to include healthy options like fruits and vegetables too. * We're in the middle of a big push to modernize our infrastructure and technologies. It's a little painful for the time being, but it's definitely going to make things go more smoothly when it's done. * Part of getting with the times includes more emphasis on things like unit testing and CI/CD. * Bonuses are paid quarterly. * We're finally going to get a 401k match in 2019, although it's not a huge amount. Hopefully it's going to improve gradually over time. * Salaries have been low in the past, but they're improving. * There's a pretty clear vision of how to move the company forward. It seemed a little risky at first, but it's all coming together nicely.

Cons

* There's a ton of work, but not enough people to do it. * The engineering teams are slightly too large because we don't have enough product owners. * Small numbers of teams with lots of projects to work on means juggling multiple things at the same time. There's a lot of context switching. * "Unlimited" vacation is not good. Just like other places that do it, it creates pressure to not take much vacation for fear of abusing the system. * Revenue depends a lot on weather, which determines our bonuses and other funding. It's kind of messed up, but bad weather means good bonuses. * People tend to stay connected via chat and email outside of office hours and while on vacation. * We're ditching our cubes and moving to an open floor plan. I've got mixed feelings about it. Side note to anyone reading this: if you're interested in a product owner position, please apply! We need you and will kiss the ground you walk on if you do a good job. Another side note: I see one review on here mentioned bed bugs in the Bothell office! I've never heard that before, but it's worth noting that they're going to be moving to a cool new office very soon. Hopefully "no infestations" is part of the contract on the lease.

Thank you for your review! We are excited about the changes we are making as an organization, including our new Bellevue HQ, 401k match, open floor plan, and organic seating arrangement. We are working to greatly expand, not only our engineering capacity in 2019 and beyond, but also add resources across the business. EagleView will continuously review our team structures and make adjustments to ensure we have the right people, in the right roles, and with the right objectives so we can all be successful together. Please feel free to send any other ideas or feedback to HR or the leadership team.
