Pros

The city of Denver. Other than that, there isn't much upside. During my time there, I didn't feel empowered to make a difference. All new ideas are shut down and swept under the rug. Not a place for innovation.

Cons

Everything. The benefits aren't good and the salaries aren't competitive. Management isn't given any power to change the company. Everything must be done the way it has been done in the past. This is not a dynamic company and work has been done the same for the last 20 years. Considering the lack of competition in the industry, this company could really differentiate themselves by thinking outside of the box and maybe looking into pentrating other industries.

Pros

Some of the best reasons are to learn new skills, and get a broad understanding of various types of technologies related to set-top box hardware and software design. The engineering group is talented and works hard. There are a variety of different positions and places to learn new skills.

Cons

The biggest downside is Core/required hours, Travel Policy, Nitpicking expenses and the general "Echostar way" of always making sure that the employee gets the short end of the stick, and that Echostar benefits over the employee in all situations. It is a very morale draining way of treating employees. It almost cancels any positive from working there.

Pros

It's high tech, and gives good experience for a resume. If you have the initiative to learn you can learn all you want. They don't want you to work over 40 hours a week in most jobs, so you still have time for family depending on your shift. They give 6 paid holidays, which means if you are scheduled to work it you get doubletime or a different day off. Tuition reimbursement, but it comes at the end of the semester after you get your grades and they have to be C or better.

Cons

Pay, Pay, Pay, Pay and Pay, don't be a sucker at salary negotiation. Benefits are junk, but at least the company got a car in NASCAR-sarcasm. The management always says they are trying to help you out and improve the workplace and the pay, then they turn around and say we can't justify a raise to the compensation committee because other people got raises or they hire some bonehead off the street who doesn't know anything about SatCom and pay him 13000 a year more then current employees who they don't feel they need to give raises to. There are lots of politics so you better be a yes man, do not think for yourself.
