Pros

It's a job. Times are tough, I went through a hundred applications or more before I ran across Echo Star and was brought right in. I now see why.

Cons

There are very few positives. The health care benefits are the worst I've ever seen. Pay is low, differential for night work is 10% or more below industry standards. Direct management is either timid or clueless. Middle management is completely incompetent and HR probably gets them into more lawsuits than they prevent with their utter ignorance of the law.

Pros

Well if you want to break into a tech field it is a starting place. It is really hard for me to find any real pros for working there. If you work there, well you at least have a job. Itâ??s a stopping place while you find something better. You get to make a few new friends that more than likely wonâ??t be there much longer after you start, so you get to see a lot of new faces.

Cons

They donâ??t care about the employees or there end base customers. They treat employees like they are doing you a favor by allowing you to work there. They will work you to the bone and give you no reward for doing it and the best raise you could expect is 0.25 cents a year and that is if you are the best employee in the department. I worked there for a year and most people took the job because they could not find anything else at the time. The average employee stays only 1 â?? 2 years at best and after talking to most employees, I found that 90% hate working there and hate the job they are doing. They like to fire people that donâ??t kiss up to management or are not part of the boys club. You better be a fan of sports or you will not fit in. If you work to hard you become a threat to upper and lower management and they will get rid of you. Most of the management there are women and minorities so if you are white, you might find advancement difficult. EchoStar has a hostile work environment with little to no reward for your best efforts. I have yet to find a former or current employee that has anything positive to say about the company. The consensus is that if you want a job you work at EchoStar, if you want a career, work any place else. One more thing, pay is below the national standards for work performed and you need to keep your eyes wide open when going into this company. A lot of middle management does not poses degrees. The person who is currently running training in the Engineering Technician department does not have any formal training in their field. The lack of education in training causes frustration among all the new employees. You are setup to fail from the min you start working there.

Pros

Echostar has an interesting technology and the people are great. You also get three weeks of vacation after 2 years. It never goes up from there however. Profit sharing is usually generous at around four percent.

Cons

The health benefits are terrible. The 401k match is a measly fifteen hundered dollars. The choices in the 401k plan are not good and contain mostly funds with very high expenses. The expect you to work a minimum of forty five hours per week. Raises are typicllay around three percent. That is assuming you get a raise at all. Management is more interested in their own careers and provide no guidance for your career. If you get a job at Echostar, you will be doing the same thing over and over for the whole time you're there. It is very difficult to move around.
