Pros

Elevance Health paints a picture of stability and long-term career growth, but my experience, along with that of thousands of others, tells a different story. Despite their promises of a lasting career, they’ve axed over 10,000 roles in the past year alone, including mine. The company has a troubling pattern of bringing people in, extracting their ideas and hard work, and then discarding them under the guise of budget cuts. It feels like a cruel joke to see Elevance Health continue hiring while simultaneously cutting positions left and right. Many talented individuals, myself included, were brought on board with high hopes, only to have our tenures abruptly ended in about a year or so. The constant churn of employees not only disrupts lives but also erodes trust and morale within the organization. If you're considering a position at Elevance Health, be wary of their promises. The reality is a revolving door where your contributions are valued only until the next round of budget cuts. Proceed with caution and have a backup plan ready.

Pros

Benefits are above average. ESOP, 401k, Paid Leave (if honored)

Cons

I waited before writing this review to ensure it was an honest assessment of the situation. The company culture (at least in the cybersecurity space) is as toxic as they come. The workload for the SOC analysts is overwhelming and constantly growing with little relief offered. Be prepared to schedule bathroom breaks (let alone lunch) with your team to make sure there is proper coverage. Be prepared to report to at least 1 if not 2 shift leaders who are basically just another line of management offering little help when needed. You will only hear from shift leaders and management when you make a mistake or aren't living up to the metrics that are constantly tracked. Having an off day? Be prepared to hear about it. It isn't about the quality of work completed, it is about the quantity (cases picked up, closed, triage time, investigation time, etc.). Went through 3 managers in my time at the company with the most recent one being the most hands-off. He only cares about what the shift leaders say which is easily tainted if you have a disagreement with them. Does it sound petty? Because it absolutely is. You likely won't have any actual constructive criticism from leaders or management before actions are taken against you. If you do not live in the Indianapolis area and are not part of a very clear inner circle, you will be passed over for growth opportunities. Shift leaders (in my time) displayed a disregard for typical communication etiquette and frequently ventured into uncomfortable areas (gender, race, sexuality, etc) which would be cause for termination at most places. If you speak up against it (even respectfully) be prepared to get on a "list" that will keep you out of any discussions for growth. The culture in our area was truly toxic. Planning on having a child and taking advantage of FMLA/Paid paternity leave? Think again. I have firsthand knowledge that those policies are not honored and that the company will terminate you with a 2-week-old baby at home without any warnings about performance or corrective meetings. They will lie about past performance reviews and claim that it is performance-related contrary to facts. The job is an endless grind with no room to grow unless you are part of an established inner circle. Pay starts pretty well but raises are minimal at best. Somehow health insurance costs more than other places (which seems strange since you work for the company you are buying into). This may sound like a bitter review, but I have thought long and hard before writing this to ensure it was as objective as possible. If you value work/life balance and want to work for a company that cares and shows an interest in you and your family, then go somewhere else. At the moment, this place is toxic and the pay isn't even above market rate to make up for it.

Pros

The company is full of gems of human beings who will step up and help one another - these are middle managers, not upper leadership.

Cons

Very unstable climate which often feels cyclical; however, over the past year, there has been no reprieve. Constant news of RIFs across the company, freezes on work-related travel, no overtime ability. "Do more with less" has been the running theme for years but at this point, there are very little resources to do the work we are required to do.
