Pros

You can (and, believe me, HAVE TO) work from home. The salary.

Cons

The worst decision of my professional career was joining Anthem. Literally from day one I regretted it. The Chicago office (in the Willis Tower) oozes sadness. It smells like a library circa 1982, is dank, the chairs are archaic, uncomfortable (as are the tiny cubes) and if you’re expecting any electricity or proof that people aren’t counting the minutes to leave, you picked the wrong place. No free snacks, every website is firewalled (even ones you need for work), it takes 10 minutes just to get into the office and there’s a dress code. And that doesn’t even talk about the culture, which is non-existent. My boss NEVER responded to emails, was incoherent every time you got on the phone with him (I was NOT alone in this assessment), no one ever tells you you can leave early before long weekends, there’s NO sick days (it’s a HEALTHCARE COMPANY). I was counting the seconds to leave. Anyone, and I mean anyone, that tolerates this place clearly has not worked at a progressive, modern-day company and think Anthem is the norm. It’s not. It’s awful and I’m thrilled that chapter of my life is over.

Pros

Ability to work from home; great team members I enjoy working with; decent benefits

Cons

Continuously overworked to the point of physical stress; leadership saves money by not hiring additional staff; employees are pushed to the point of breaking and looking outside the company
