Pros

The company on the whole is phenomenal and I can't take anything away from that. Patient Access Associate jobs are easy to get because they're always hiring... (I wonder why?) Friendly staff GREAT downtown Decatur location Good job for someone fresh out of college looking to gain some real-world work experience, that is, if you've only had 1 or 2 jobs before. Benefits are PHENOMENAL, and available the 1st day of hire.

Cons

The pay SUCKS. Again, great company, but the Patient Access department at Decatur Plaza is a joke. Patient Access means scheduling patients and hearing complaints ALL.DAY.LONG. It can also mean, depending on which department you work in, not having a clear-cut resolution protocol, leaving schedulers unable to resolve their issues, which is silly and unacceptable. Management is young and highly inexperienced and most of them don't know what they're doing. The job is exciting for approximately ONE MONTH, and then you're like...OK, I'm done. I'm ready to go. It's menial, meaningless work. They want individuals w/college degrees to do it, but my daughter could do the job better than the ones they currently have that don't have college degrees (HS graduates). If you have a degree, even though this department states that this is the requirement, run for your life and go do something purposeful with it. They have a system called "schedule adherence." They give you a schedule each day, tell you when you can go to lunch, when you can take your breaks, etc. If you use the restroom - counts "against you" but there's no real consequence, it just lessens your score. It's not like you lose money or something. You're already losing money wasting your life away sitting on those phones. They want you to stick to your schedule and like to tell you how you're doing with that, as if it means something. You are chained to your desk ALL DAY! If your entrepreneurial, this job just won't work for you. It'll eat away at your spirit. The pay SUCKS. Just wanted emphasize. If you can wait out the 6 month time frame it takes to transfer to a different department then more power to you. Just hope you get out of there in 6 months. Otherwise you're going to feel like you're wasting a significant part of your life there, and that's not OK.

Discouraging, Disheartening and Disappointing.

Pros

The self service feature within your employee profile. Sadly, this was the best "pro" that comes to mind.

Cons

Employees should expect to become a nameless, faceless #, whose input as well as existence are irrelevant. Focus is placed heavily upon following cookie cutter (and often illogical) protocol, rather than objectively assessing situations or areas individually which may not fit that mold, thus creating a counter productive and frustrating environment to successfully and diligently work within. Advancement opportunities are smothered by degree requirements for just about anything, including entry level and low paying positions with little to no consideration given for years of experience. Tenure, commitment and loyalty are not rewarded or valued. In fact, those traits makes you more vulnerable. Antiquated systems, processes and mentality. A very pass the buck type of environment with more rules, "teams" and "higher powers that be" who seemingly ultimately prove to have no actual skill or comprehension of how to truly fulfill the roles they were so undeservingly assigned based only by meeting the "on paper" requirements. Many of whom have no real experience or understanding of even the most basic foundations of the healthcare industry. Lack of accountability. High turnover. Low compensation. Lumped together earned personal time, which is stolen to cover all holidays which the company chooses to honor. No bonuses. Inflexibility and injustices abound, which only breeds resentment and a negative type of competitiveness amongst coworkers.
