Pros

The name will increase the value of your resume to outsiders and you will learn a lot about healthcare (if you choose to) and maintaining cordial relationships with catty co-workers and management. Hard to get fired from here so you have some job security.

Cons

No growth potential for employees. Unless you are in the UGA or Emory Univ club, it's a who you know type of party at Emory. It's such a large facility that it's hard to even know where a potential transfer location/department is. Wherever you get hired is where Emory expects you to stay forever. Yes forever. There are people with Master's degrees working entry-level. Managers will sometimes block people from potential movement (transfers and education). There are no opportunities for networking at Emory. Even if you try to reach out and show interest, managers will still ignore you. Low pay. They love to low ball you on salary. With an internal transfer, don't look for much of an increase. Most of them will try to get you to take a pay cut from what you've already earned! Please negotiate when you come in but I've heard that now new hires are no longer allowed to negotiate for hourly positions. Raises are a joke, pennies on the dollar. You have to use your PTO for everything, holidays, vacation, illness, bad weather, etc. Your bank can get pretty low, pretty quick. Lack of communication. There is a real distance between administration and the rest of staff. There is very little employee recognition. No incentives to really improve morale or make employees feel appreciated. High turnover. After working here, I am seriously turned off from healthcare.

Pros

It's Emory! One of the most prestigious hospital systems in the US. Nice to be a part of it. Ability to work a lot of overtime. (whether you want to or not)

Cons

Not enough paid time off. You have to use your PTO bank to pay yourself for holidays. Chronically short staffed.

Pros

The benefits were awesome. I enjoyed all of the perks that were given to us. I also loved my co-workers. They made the job manageable.

Cons

Management at the calll center and many of the front desk areas is quite awful. Managers are generally only worried about meeting the numbers, and fail to realize that their staff are human beings who go through things just like they do. Because they are all about the numbers, they forget to check in with their employees to make sure we are okay. Also, I noticed that HR tends to look out for the managers more than they do lower level employees. Don't submit a complaint because rest assure that retaliation will shortly follow. Don't be surprised if you develop anxiety issues and problems related from stress thanks to poor leadership and management. Also, the pay is ridiculously low.
