Pros

The one thing I will miss working at the American Diabetes Association is my coworkers. A diverse, enjoyable group to be around. Vacation time is good Work/life balance is good

Cons

Kevin Hagan came to the ADA a couple years ago, fired all of the previous executive staff, brought in his own hand-selected exec staff with a vision of turning the Association around. Not only did he not fulfill his promises, he has made it an absolute living hell of a work environment. Everyone is left worried if they will have a job tomorrow or not. Unless you're an executive, VP, or in senior management, don't expect to get much pay. They're keeping all the money up top and laying off anyone below them. Senior Management is also terrible. You get promoted based on if you're liked and in their "clique" or not. If you're a great player in the game of office politics, this is the place for you. Overall, stay away. This company will be lucky to be around in 2-3 years with the direction Kevin Hagan has taken them. I don't know how the board ever elected him as the new CEO after his failed stint at Feed the Children. Layoffs are a normal occurrence once the calendar hits a new year. There have been rounds of layoffs every year since Kevin Hagan has taken over, including this year.

Pros

- Positive and friendly team - Strong management - Employees are incredibly smart and hardworking. Everyone works together for the success of the mission. - Mission is amazing and it feels good to support those who are fighting diabetes.

Cons

- As with many nonprofits, there are never enough resources. We're always making due with what we can, - Because we are a large org, sometimes it's difficult to maintain communications across departments.

Pros

Easy onboarding For my department, it was a very smooth onboarding experience with clearly structured videos and trainings. As with any onboarding, it is tedious and you don't necessarily retain all of it but I understand why it's required. Decent salary Can confidently say that they will absolutely negotiate pay and will even work with you to find a salary that fits expectations. WFH As someone who has become accustomed to working from home, the flexibility is appreciated and welcomed. The company does like to see teams get together in person and encourages in-person meetings but seems to understand there are limitations.

Cons

Outdated systems Honestly, a pretty bad CRM system is being used but they are implementing a better one now so can't be too upset about it. Poor organization of centralized saved files Biggest complaint by far is how erratically centralized files are saved such as examples of emails/ outreach, access to other markets' files, or the outdated statistics and company info. There is no rhyme or reason for where important documents are saved and how to access them.
