Pros
I received a paycheck and average benefit package. Occasional travel opportunities and training. Christmas eve was an annual holiday, which is unusual at most corporations.
Cons
The corporate environment is a "good old boys" mentality. Balfour Beatty is in financial trouble according to the business sites in Europe. The Western region is a mess -- there is no leadership -- just small fish in a big pond lacking management skills, or for that matter any skills (compared to other firms I have/am working for in the same industry) The projects are boring The marketing department is a proposal mill -- they go after anything and everything even when they do not have the experience or staff. The entire proposal development process is a joke -- they don't understand the process at all -- they hand in write-ups at the last minute and expect marketing to work most of the night to complete it -- non-responsive to requests -- and that is why they didn't make their goal for 2014 -- not even close Award lazy people and chastise hard workers No social graces -- very rough around the edges, but think they are sophisticated and polished. Overwork all staff and pay them a very low salary. Disrespectful But if you are into the environment described above -- go for it!
